Aud's Radio and Music Page O Stuff
You might have noticed I have several links to
local radio stations......I work for one part time and
love it. In addition to working , working , and working
more, I love to catch up on the latest bands to hit the
scene, and not just the Seattle/Houston/Columbus scene. (I haven't had to much time to check anything out here in Columbus) But, working at a country station has opened up another whole new genre of music and artists to me. I know the order that I have them listed in , White Zombie and then a Dwight Yoakum link, might make your head spin, but hey, I warned ya I was eclectic! Some bands I think worth checking out are:
One name,,,,one man..... Gary Allan...if you have not already picked up his album, "Smoke Rings in the Dark", get it, it's a must have for any popular country music listener. He's a great guy born at the very same hospital as yours truly, who's doing an awesome job of raising three kids as a single Dad....
Yikes!!! She's gone country...well, ya'll knew that 7 months in Houston would do something, here is one of the country bands that has grown on me....Check out Richie, Keech and the other guys in LONESTAR...I love the way they have the page set up, and the coolest thing about it, is they do it themselves..You have to check out the road stories...I laughed till I almost wet my pants!
Rob Zombie's little brother, Spider, hits the big time, his first album hit AOR stations around the country in late 1999 and he's been kickin it since! I guess while Spider and Rob look nothing alike, they both have killer genes when it comes to putting together killer music.
TYPE O NEGATIVE (dark and gothic, but worth
checking out- well when Peter isn't busy amping the 'roids or acting like a vampire wanna be, just kidding...)
The Best TYPE O NEGATIVE page yet....if you
dare
A Queensryche page...Much to my saddness and the dismay of many diehard Queensryche fans, Chris Degarmo, left the band in 1998. Best of luck in the future Chris!
Another Queensryche page...
White Zombie!!! Rob released his first solo effort in 1998, "Hellbilly Deluxe" and even without guitarist Sean - he still rocks and makes everything black and gothic and slightly monsterish, sound great! My favorite track definitely is "Living Dead Girl"...
Another White Zombie page.
SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS
THE MELVINS
JERRY
CANTRELL -
from Seattle Rockers Alice In Chains,
released his very first solo CD, "Boggey Depo" about a year ago, or so (don't ask me where he got the name) and released the first single, "Cut You In"....and like everything else he does, it rocks! But ummmm, well it was the only one on the CD that did...ok ok, I'll quit playing rock critic, they just pay me to spin the discs on the radio, not tell ya what I think about it.
SECOND
COMING (okay another Seattle band), their one and only
CD "LOVEvil" is hard to find but worth buying as both
Jerry Cantrell and Lane Staley from AIC provide back up
vocals and guitar......UPDATE....they released another CD about a year ago, I didn't care for it...I think they shoulda changed the name of the second CD to..."Came once, couldn't do it again".
My adventures in the radio market..... I got my start at a little station in South King county, Washington state - KGRG 89.9fm Todays Rock! and DJ'ed there for 2 years before moving on to work with, produce and intern for Cathy Faulkner at KISW...check out the KISW link and be sure and visit Twisted Radio on Line.I also got to know the likes of Bob Rivers (Twisted Radio)John Ballard and who's that other guy...Oh well I forget his name. By the way, John, where the hell are you now days? While back in Seattle I worked for a local group of stations now run by Ackerly Communications, KUBE/KJRfm and KJR am Sports radio.....Check 'em out!!! Then in January of 1999 I moved down to Houston Texas and pulled a 6 month stint at KHMX - Houston's Mix 96.5, where the format was lots of 80's stuff (the positioning statement of the station shoulda been " Madonna now, Maddona then, the best mix of Madonna anywhere!") with some current stuff thrown in just to make sure the listeners knew they hadn't time warped back to 1986. In August when I had decided I had enough of the Houston heat, big hair and insects, I headed north....and now am at WCOL...Where there's always a bigger hit, always a better song, Buckey Country 92.3 WCOL" ( try saying all that and announcing who the song you just played was sung by, and then front sell the song you are ramping into , and doing it ALL in like 7 seconds - yes I drink a lot of caffiene!) Ok so that's our positioning statement. Yeah ok, it's country, but I am actually having fun. AND...I didn't ever think I would ever say this, I am starting to enjoy some of the songs, I mean hell, it's hard not to like Kenney Chesney's latest, "She Thinks my Tractor's Sexy" ( and if I have to listen to another guy go on about the chick in the video, I'm gonna...I'm gonna....well I just will!)or Ty Herndon's *drool drool* latest "Steam", and even the killer new single from Chad Brock, "Lightening Does the Work"...like I was saying - woops, hang on, I'm drooling all over my new Ty Herndon Cd, let me get a tissue real quick - anyhow I was saying, it's hard for this kind of music not to grow on ya after a while. Hmmm, it's either that or *shrieks* I'm getting....ol....o...old....older! WCOL is another Clear Channel/Jacor station, like Mix was, but the staff here is the best! Joe Boxer, and Don Shannon are among a few of the jocks here that have been great about helping me make the transition from metal to country. And the artists are pretty cool as well..don't come across so many egos... Check 'em out of you get a chance.
HERE IS SOMETHING I FOUND OUT AT www.aftermidnite.com AND THOUGHT WAS TOO HILARIOUS TO PASS UP....IT'S BILLY GILLMAN, OF "ONE VOICE" FAME AND TAMMY COCHRAN, SHE CURRENTLY HAS A SINGEL IN ROTATION CALLED "ANGELS IN WAITING" GOOD LORD, NO WONDDER BILLY IS GRIPPING THAT MIC SO HARD....HOPE YOU ENJOY!!

Alrighty then….I was chatting with a friend about this and he sort of, well, probably went back a few years in his own mind and thought, “gee if I were 12 years old and at a major press conference sitting next to that, this would really have been more like it……..scroll down:

WCOL 92.3 Always A Better Song. You can't listen live yet, which is maybe a good thing, seeing as how that's where I am on the air...*lol*, but from the rumors I hear, it won't be long before you can listen via the net.
Houston's Mix 95.6 Your New At Work Choice. You can listen live on the net if you have Windows Media Player, its not RealAudio Player but it works.
