"Truth or dare, dear?" Lara asked Cora coyly.
The girls had decided to have a bit of a slumber party and were hanging out in Cora's room. They were in their jammies and sprawled out everywhere; on the floor, beds, table and chairs. Grace was passing around a tube of cold chocolate chip cookie dough. It was a true slumber party.
Cora licked her lips. "Mm, truth I think . . ."
"Alright," Lara said, leaning forward from the table she was sitting on. "Do you or do you not have the totally biggest crush on Nick?"
"Oh, that's not a hard one at all Ms. Valley!" Cora laughed. Her golden curls bounced from side to side. "Of course I have a crush on Nick! He's a really nice guy!"
Cora smiled. "My turn! This is a group one! Truth or dare?' She asked her buddies. Grace got up off the floor to stretch.
"I didn't know you could do group ones! Isn't that a little unfair?" Grace asked. She hadn't played truth or dare since she'd been in college and even then it had seemed a bit juvenile. Who ever heard of a twenty five year old playing truth or dare? Never the less, here she was, and she had to admit she was actually enjoying herself.
"Yes, you can," Cora informed her. "Now which is it? Truth or dare?"
"I'm for truth," Lara smiled. She had an idea of what her friend was going to ask. Her vote was followed by a chorus of "truth", "truth".
Graces hesitated. "Oh, alright, truth."
"Ha, ha, ha!" Cora said triumphantly. "Now, the question is: Does everyone here have the same kind of enormous crush, that I do, on the guy who asked them to dinner tonight?"
"Yes!" Lara cried.
"Well - taha - like - yeah!" Victoria replied, trying to do her best valley girl impression of Lara. Her friend gave her an icy look.
"Can we say - oh yeah!" Alison told them happily. They turned to Grace.
She smiled. "Well . . . Howie is kinda cute . . . Oh stop staring at me! You know I like the guy!"
The girls erupted into applause. "Way to be Grace!" Lara clapped.
Kevin was stirred from his sleep by a knocking at his door.
"What do you want!?!" Kevin yelled into the pillow.
"Kevin it's me! Open the door!" Brian called.
Kevin threw himself out of bed and on to his feet. He opened the adjoining door about two inches, and stood blocking it. "What?" He demanded harshly.
Brian didn't bother waiting for his cousin to let him in. "Kevin - I like her. I like her a lot," Brian admitted.
"Oh my God!" Kevin groaned. "Can't we talk about this in the morning? Brian . . ."
"No," Brian replied insistently. "I need to talk now. Kevin, you're my cousin."
"Uhg - Alright!" Kevin sighed. He let the door swing open and he threw himself back on to his bed.
Brian sat down in one of the chairs. "Kevin, I know I shouldn't be thinking like this. I know it's not a good idea to get involved with her . . . but still! I just can't help feeling that I want to be with her!"
"Go with it," Kevin murmured into the pillow. Just then there was a knock on the other adjoining door.
"Yo! Kev! Open up!" A.J.'s voice called.
Brian got up and opened the door.
"Brian? What are you doing here?" A.J. asked.
"Same thing you are," Brian replied.
A.J.'s eyes went wide. "You've got a crush on Alison too?"
"No, you idiot!" Brian started. Just then a knock could be heard from Brian's room. He hurried back and opened the adjoining door to Nick's room. There stood Howie and Nick, looking slumped and depressed.
Brian smiled and stepped aside. "This way, if you please, gentlemen!"
Howie and Nick trudged through the door to Kevin's room.
"I won't be hasty! I'll give you a try! If you really love me then I'll say good-bye!" Cora sang at the top of her lungs.
"Do you really think this is a good idea?" Grace whispered to Victoria. "I doubt we're supposed to be doing this. What if hotel security gets upset?"
"All the rooms around us are ours,"Victoria pointed out. "Besides, it's our free time, no one is responsible for us except us. If someone complains, hotel staff will come and tell us to keep it down. Either way, we're fine."
Grace nodded and continued to laugh at Cora. She was making a complete fool out of herself by singing Wannabe as a dare. She looked ridiculous. Finally Cora finished and plopped herself back down on her bed.
"Now! For my revenge!" Cora laughed. "Group question - truth or dare, ladies?"
"Dare!" Lara smiled.
"Dare!", Dare!" Victoria and Alison added.
Grace hesitated. "Oh, alright, dare."
"We'll be streaking ladies," Cora smiled slyly. "This way please . . ."
"She reminds me of Gwen Stefani . . ." A.J. said dreamily.
Howie gave him a look. "She doesn't look like Gwen - not even remotely, well, except for mehndi strips around her arms."
A.J. looked at Howie quizzically. "You've been looking at my girl?"
"Who's your girl?" Nick jumped in.
"No one's his girl! Now get out!" Kevin yelled from under his pillow.
"They are definitely cool girls," Brian added. "Especially Lara. It's funny, I would never have thought of her as my type. Then again, I don't know her too well . . . I've had some good conversations with her though. On the bus, at the pool, during supper - before Nick started the thing!"
Nick went to open his mouth but was silenced by Kevin's angry groan. "Yes, already!" He shouted. "They are great! Go out with them! Have a good time! Get Married! Have kids! Grow old together! I don't care! But GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM!"
The guys looked at one another and shrugged. Kevin jumped out of bed and held the front door open for them. "This way - NOW!"
A.J., Howie, Nick and Brian slowly walked out of the room. Kevin slammed the door behind them. Brian check his pockets for a room key.
"Oh shit!" Brian cried. "I forgot my room key!"
He turned to the guys. They're eyes were wide.
"Oh no!" A.J. winced. He turned back to Kevin's room and knocked on the door. Kevin wasn't answering. "Kev! Yo Kev! Kev? Let us in! We forgot our room keys!"
A.J. turned back to the other guys. Nick slapped his head with the palm of his hand. "Shit . . ."
Grace was nervous, but with a thrill of excitement. The air seemed so cool without even a thin layer of clothing blanketing her. She took a deep breath and glanced at the other girls. They seemed more excited than she. They had obviously done this before.
Cora led the pack, carefully peering out the hotel room door before saying: "Now remember, we run - ahem - streak, to the Coke machine and back. Ready girls? Let's do it!"
She sprinted out and down the hall, trying to go as fast as she could. Adrenaline rushed through her veins. Cheap thrills were often fun.
As she sprinted around the corner, Cora stopped dead in her tracks. The other girls bumped into her, then froze
A.J. turned back to the other guys. Nick slapped his head with the palm of his hand. "Shit . . ."
Suddenly the hall was filled with the loud noise of giggles and running feet. The guys turned their heads, confused by the sudden sound.
"Oh shit," Nick muttered as Cora turned the corner. She came to a quick stop and stared at him. She was wearing only a silk pair of white underwear. She was completely topless. The other girls were right behind her, dressed similarly.
The two groups stared at one another. Lara broke the silence; She screamed. The other girls started to scream with her. The guys turned away from them and began banging on Kevin's door with a renewed enthusiasm.
"Kevin! Kev man let us in! Kevin!" A.J. hollered.
Kevin rolled over in bed and held the pillow tighter against his head. If they thought he was going to let them in to talk about their girl problems, they had another thing coming.
The girls tried to turn around and run back to Cora's room. Grace turned the corner to see Johnny Write coming out of his room. She hurried back immediately and told the people in the hallway to hush.
Grabbing Cora's hand, Grace led the girls to her room. "Andrew!" She yelled. "Andrew open up!" She could see Johnny's shadow creeping down the hall way. "Andrew!" Her room mate abruptly yanked the door open. The girls tumbled inside.
"Oh my God!" Andrew cried, slamming the door shut. "Didn't need to see that! Didn't need to see that at all!" He kept his back to them, facing the door he had just shut.
The girls slowly looked at one another . . . And began to laugh.
As soon as Nick had seen a man's shadow sauntering down the hall way, he knew they were in shit. Quickly he grabbed Howie's arm. "C'mon!" He told them.
The guys hurried down the hall and into the small foyer that held the Coke and vending machines. They glanced at one another, panting. Nick leaning against the Coke machine, then felt something in his back pocket. He reached inside and pulled out a small piece of plastic, much like a credit card. It was his room key.
The guys turned to him with hateful eyes. "You lousy -"
