How Could You?

Chapter Fifteen - How could you?

"How could you not wake up?" Kevin demanded as he began to get dressed.

"Me? What about you? Don't you go blaming all this on me! It's not my fault you were too cheap to buy an alarm clock!" Victoria retorted angrily. "What's wrong with you anyway? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed or what?"

"Yes! As a matter of fact I did wake up on the wrong side of the bed!" Kevin snapped. "Because someone had their arm around someone else the whole night and woke up with a sore back and a sore arm! And I was on the wrong side of the bed!" He continued the level of anger in his voice dying down. "I normally sleep on the left side . . ."

Victoria bit her lip to keep from laughing. "Oh! Poor baby!" She replied sarcastically.

Kevin gave her a grim smile and nodded.

Victoria watched Kevin dress with an amused twinkle in her eye. She wasn't quite sure if he knew she was watching him this closely. He was such a pleasure to watch though. He had a beautiful body, even at this early in the morning. Suddenly Kevin glanced up and noticed Victoria's dilated pupils.

"Having fun?" He asked quietly.

Victoria bit her lip. Kevin still wasn't wearing his shirt. He had on a pair of light pants, but he still held the shirt in his hands. She moved over and shuffled out of bed. Kevin gasped as she let the sheets fall off her body.

Victoria tentatively wrapped her arms around his neck. He remained still and silent. Victoria smiled. "It's nothing you haven't touched before!"

Kevin's face lit up and he burst out laughing. Victoria's smile widened.

"Wow!" Kevin continued to chuckle. "I've known you for what? Barely a week?"

Victoria's eyebrow creased. "We've been on tour together for four days, but we met about a month before that because you wanted to have a say in who opened for you."

"Well, we couldn't have made a better choice," Kevin told her honestly. "You are one amazing girl."

Victoria blushed slightly. "Thanks," She said quietly. She paused. "Well I guess I better get out of your room!"

Hurriedly, Victoria threw on her clothes from the night before and looked both ways before she crossed the hall and walked down to her own room.

* * *

"Victoria! You bitch! I was up all night worrying about you!" Lara accused. "Where the hell were you! Oh my God! You are wearing the same clothes you had on last night! What did you do?"

Victoria gave her friend a sarcastic and hopefully reassuring smile. "Calm yourself, dear. I was very safe. Besides that, you were not up worrying last night, you were sound asleep. You only started worrying this morning when you realized I didn't come back."

Lara's face fell and her shoulders slumped. "I hate you for being able to do that!"

"You've been one of my best friends for three years now! I know you inside and out girlfriend!" Victoria winked. "And, by the way, I am not a bitch and you don't hate me! You love me!"

"Ha!" Lara cried. "Which bring us back to the question of where you were last night!"

Victoria sighed. "Did you mention to any of the other girls that I was gone?"

Lara shook her head.

"How did things turn out with the guys?" Victoria continued.

"We hate them eternally and with every ounce of our souls - except for Howie who, it turns out had nothing to do with the cake!" Lara informed her. "Now stop changing the subject and tell me what happened?"

Victoria sighed. "First promise me you won't tell the other girls - ever - anyone of them."

Lara nodded.

Victoria shook her head and led her friend into the bathroom. She turned on the tap and a rush of cold water sprang forward. Victoria submerged her friend's hand.

"Now, promise," Victoria smiled.

Lara gave her friend and grim look, then nodded. It was true, she was incapable of lying when any part of her body was submerged in water. She was one strange duck.

Victoria released Lara's wrist. "First of all, Kevin had nothing to do with it, just like Howie. He didn't send the cake, well, he knew about it, but he said he couldn't stop them and I believe him. Then I got mad at him and . . . We slept together . . ."

Lara's face was completely blank. She was in totally shock. Victoria, calm, rational, completely responsible Victoria, had slept with a guy she had only known for a few days. A guy she was mad at. It wasn't like her. It was more along the lines of something Lara might do.

Lara suddenly found her voice. "YOU DID WHAT?" She shouted incredulously.

Victoria shut the bathroom door before Lara could escape. "I slept with Kevin." She repeated.

"How could you?" Lara continued disbelievingly. "How could you of all people do something so irresponsible?"

Victoria shrugged slightly. "I know it was irresponsible and unlike me. But screw that! It felt right, ‘in the moment'! It was passionate and it was absolutely amazing!"

Lara's mouth fell open and she tried to speak.

Victoria glanced at her again. "Look I haven't had sex in two years and I wanted this. Besides that, we we're kind of responsible about it and we are involved with each other now and starting a new relationship! I don't have to justify myself to you! Come on my unicorn taming friend! We've got a bus to catch! "

With that, Victoria threw open the bathroom door and stormed out.
