Roses Of Many Shades

Chapter Seventeen - Roses Of Many Shades

Cora trudged back to her hotel room. The show that night had just finished up and finally Cora was going to get some sleep - something she had been lacking last night. As she turned the corner of the corridor, Cora noticed something on the floor, in front of her hotel room door.

The first thought that hit her, was that something had gone wrong. Cora had sent a single yellow rose to Nick as soon as the bus had reached the hotel and she had been able to get out. Attached had been a note of apology for hitting him. It had also explained that the yellow rose symbolized friendship and reunion. Sending it had made her feel better, but now she felt a growing concern that the idiots at the flower shop downstairs had messed up and sent the rose back to her.

Cora raced down the hall and hurriedly picked up the yellow rose from in front of her door. She sighed heavily and cursed the florist under her breathe. Then she opened the small note. It read: Meet me in front of the flower stand, downstairs, in the hotel lobby - your secret admirer

A puzzled look crossed Cora's face. This was definitely not the card she had sent Nick. Turning on her heal, she decided to head back downstairs to meet her ‘secret admirer'.

Nick stood in the hotel lobby, anxiously awaiting Cora's arrival. He stood by the closed flowor stand with a dozen roses in his hands. Four were yellow, four were pink and four were red - a regular old love rainbow.

He would love to be sleeping right now - God knew he needed the sleep, but never the less, here he was with roses of many shades in his grasp. Waiting . . . Nick was waiting.

Cora hurried out the elevator foyer and into the hotel lobby. Her eyes scanned the very few people still milling around the place. Her eyes came to rest on a cute blond guy holding a bunch of different coloured roses.

Cora was not the boy crazy type - she didn't fall in love fast or from a glance. But when she saw Nick Carter standing in front of a closed flower cart, roses in hand and a sleepy smile on his face, she almost started to cry.

Although she felt the urge to run up and throw her arms around his neck, she didn't. Very slowly, Cora approached him in silence. His smile never faded as her eyes began to fill with tears. He extended the flowers toward her and Cora reached for the card. It read:

Gotcha! - Um, just kidding! I mean, shit I'm bad at this, I don't want you to get the wrong idea and please don't hit me again! It really hurt, seriously girl, you've got one strong arm! I know you feel badly, but don't, really! The rose you sent me was very thoughtful, now I've got some for you - friendship, young love and romance . . . Love, your not so secret admirer, Nick Carter

ps. That ‘Gotcha!' line at the beginning - you know I was just kidding about that, right? I meant everything I said in the note - honest!

Cora looked up from the note with a big smile on her face. She accepted the roses and brought them to her face.

"Owe!" Cora cried.

Nick frowned. "Sorry they didn't have un-thorned. He said that there was a mis-"

"I know, yours had thorns too," Cora told him. She held up her middle finger, there was a dot of blood on it.

At first Nick looked slightly offended, then he realized she was just pointing out the prick on her finger. "Froid would have a field day with this," She murmured.

Nick's smile widened. He took her hand and kissed her middle finger. Cora gave him a strange look. "Ewe! You do realize there was blood on that finger?"

Nick gave her a sheepish look. "I guess I can't pretend to be a vampire like Howie, huh?"

Cora graced him with a forgiving smile. In one quick movement she reached up, pulled his head down to her lips and kissed him. "Thank you for this," She said as she pulled away.

"Thanks for forgiving me," Nick whispered.

Cora nodded slowly. "I'll . . . see you tomorrow." She walked away then, not willing to let things go any further. Cora boarded an elevator and headed back up to her hotel room.
