When You Go To San Francisco . . .

Chapter Nineteen - When You Go To San Francisco . . .

ALISON'S JOURNAL

Dear Angel,

Hey! What's up? I seem to start with that line every time I write to you . . . oh well! I'm having a great time on tour! I never expected it to be so much fun! I've kind of hooked up with this guy, A.J., but he's a Backstreet Boy and I'm not sure how real it is. Either way, he's sweet and seems to want to have some kind of relationship with me . . . We'll see.

Right now we're in San Francisco. We have a show tonight and the girls and I will be performing ‘Moving On' for the first time. Speaking of the girls, I'm a bit concerned about Cora. You know how she can get when she thinks too much! She seems to have gotten this idea into her head that she's not an important member of Nova. Nothing could be farther from the truth! We're all in this, pulling it together. I don't think the group could survive without anyone of us, let alone Cora! I'm sure she'll get over that idea pretty quick, though. She's a kick ass friend, but sometimes she still scares me . . . What if she got some notion to leave the group? I don't even want to think about that . . .

Anyway! Back to the biz as they say! I've been making some great new friends with the people on tour. All of the Backstreet Boys are great guys, good at basket-ball too. There's a womyn named Grace (The EMCA that took care of Cora when she O.D.) who is a really cool person. I think she's getting involved with Howie. They make a cute couple. As a matter of fact, all my friends are just hooking up left, right and center. Lara's getting involved with Brian, Nick and Cora have something going on and I think there's something happening between Kevin and Victoria too. God knows she won't tell us if there is, though! I don't know what's making her so secretive, but I do know that she snuck out of our hotel room last night and was gone for roughly two hours. I probably should have followed her, but she is the oldest, the most responsible and it is her life.

I'm a bit excited about heading into L.A. tomorrow. For one, it's L-fucking-A! Two, we're finally getting the two other opening acts for the Boys. Aaron Carter, Nick's little bro, and Solid Harmonie are flying in and will stay on for the rest of the American tour. Although I'm not sure if Solid Harmonie is sticking around for the end of the Canadian tour. Either way, everything is going great and having two more acts will take some of the pressure off us.

I guess I better head. I was planning on having dinner with A.J. before the show tonight.

Love, Alison

Alison looked up from her diary as Lara walked in the door. "Hey girlfriend!" Lara called to her. "Gonna get ready for your date?"

Alison rolled her eyes. "It's hardly a date! We're going out to MickyD's for half an hour before he has to go do two magazine interviews and get warmed up for the show. And we also have to do some major practicing for the show tonight!" Alison reminded her friend

"Yeah, yeah! Moving On - I did choreograph it after all!" Lara returned. "But seriously, what's wrong with MickyD's? I like MickyD's . . ." Lara added softly.

"Oh God Lar! You sound like a touchy-feely-McDonald's commercial," Alison laughed. "I'm the romantic poet! I do find grabbing a quick bite to eat with my could-be-wannabe-boyfriend a bit romantic . . . anyway! I'm gonna get ready and then I'm out!"

With that, Alison left to hop in the shower.

Alison pulled her red hair up and clipped it in place with a smiley-face claw. After arranging the small tendrils that wouldn't stay in the clip, she misted her hair with a light spray of Flexi-hold. Finally, she stepped back to view her appearance. She wore a pair of loose fitting, faded Blue- notes jeans, a snug, black tank top and four different necklaces. Smiling at her reflection, she snagged a pair of black shades and glanced at her watch.

5:25, She though to herself. Good timing.

"Hey! Looking good chicita" Lara called as Alison walked out of the bathroom.

Alison gave her friend a patronizing look. "Pull-ease Lara!"

Her friend laughed and got off her bed to look at Alison. "You must really care about this dude, Al," Lara noted. "Normally you don't put this much energy into your appearance when you go out to a five star restaurant, much less MickyD's! You're even wearing make-up - aren't you?"

"A little," Alison admitted. "But I'm allowed!"

"You're just missing one thing!" Lara told her, turning back to grab something from her bag.

"Oh? What's that?" Alison asked.

Lara turned back and clipped a small, daisy barrette beside Alison's ear. "When you go to San- Fran-Cisco! Be sure to wear, some flowers in your hair . . ."

Alison granted her friend a smile. "Thanks Lar, I'll see ya!" Alison turned and headed out the door.

Grace walked out of her hotel room and bumped right into Alison.

"Oh hey!" She smiled. "Out to see A.J.?"

Alison laughed. "Yeah, I thought I might as well go have dinner with him. You know, just to be nice . . ."

Grace's smile widened. "Yeah, I'm sure. Actually I think I'm gonna go catch a bite to eat with Howie - wanna walk with me?"

"Sure!" Al replied. They strolled down the hallway and turned the corner.

"What's with the daisy?" Grace asked.

"I dunno, Lara's weird - She likes oldies," Alison motioned to the halls as they entered the elevator foyer. "Ever notice how almost all hotels look the same?"

Grace nodded. "It gets a bit monotonous, doesn't it?"

The girls boarded an elevator and headed down to the hotel lobby to find A.J. and Howie there waiting for them. The guys turned as they noticed their dates coming.

"Hey Alison! Wow, you look great," A.J. complimented.

Alison graced him with a wide smile. "Thanks, you're looking pretty great yourself!" A.J. was dressed casually in slightly baggy khakis and a dark shirt. For the first time, Alison took a good look at his hair. He had dyed it a reddy-orange colour, which she liked. Alison was used to having friends who dyed their hair.

After chatting with Grace for a moment, Howie turned to A.J. and Alison. "Hey guys, want to double up? I know a great little seafood place near here . . ."

"You do?" A.J.'s eyebrows creased. "Since when do you know your way around San Francisco?"

"We've done shows here before, and someone I met backstage showed me this place. It was great last time we were down," Howie told him.

"Sounds good to me!" Grace smiled. A.J. glanced at Alison.

"What do you want to do?" He asked quietly.

Alison's eyes told him immediately that although she liked Howie and Grace, she'd much rather be alone with him. "Well, I was kind of looking forward to some MickyD's, but I could go for seafood . . ."

A.J. smiled. "My kind of woman! MickyD's it is! Sorry, D., but you two have fun!" with that, he took Alison hand and pulled her toward the far exit.

Howie turned to Grace. "I suppose we can do without them!"

Grace smiled. "Yeah! We don't need them! Let's head!"

The couple turned and, arm in arm, walked out the closest exit.
