The
Moody Blues were the first famous band I ever met. They were all extremely
nice, and it was a wonderful experience.
Basic Moodies Info...
Original Members: Denny Laine, Clint Warwick, Ray Thomas, Mike Pinder, and Graeme Edge
This line up had one big hit ("Go Now") before fading away. Clint and Denny left the band and John Lodge was invited to join. Fate brought Justin Hayward to complete the line up when he responded to an ad for a guitarist in the band The Animals. The Animals found what they wanted and handed the rest of the applications to the reformed Moody Blues. Thus, they found Justin. He leads as into the "Classic Seven" Lineup. Classic seven referring to the number of albums recorded before their "break-up" in the mid '70's.
New Original Lineup:
Justin Hayward- Guitar and vocals
John Lodge- Bass and vocals
Ray Thomas- Brass, woodwinds, and vocals
Graeme Edge- Drums
Mike Pinder- Keyboards and vocals.
The Moodies reunited for their eighth album Octave
in the late seventies. Just after it was recorded, Mike Pinder
chose to stop touring and to leave the band. He
was replaced by Patrick Moraz who had worked with Yes.
This line up lasted until the end of the eighties
until Patrick was fired for unknown reasons. We can assume it was
an unhappy situation as he later sued The Moody Blues.
Now touring but not official members, are Bias Boshell and Paul Bliss,
both on keyboards. As well as Gordon Marshall as a drummer.
Also through the past fifteen years or so, we have seen a wide assortment
of what I call the "goofy girls"These
are their backup vocalists who also "dance" and often wear bright, neon
colors. Although they change often, one who has been around for awhile
is Tracey Graham who has released a solo album.
Every Moody has put out a solo album, including the drummer who does not usually sing. Justin's first was Songwriter during the "breakup". At this time, John released his only solo album, Natural Avenue. Ray released two: Hopes, Wishes, and Dreams, and From Mighty Oaks. Graeme also released two: Kick off Your Muddy Boots and Paradise Ballroom. Most notable of the era is Blue Jays, a collaboration between John and Justin. It is my favorite "solo" work.
Justin also has several other albums, including Nightflight, Moving Mountains,Classic Blue and the most recent, and in my opinion best, The View From The Hill. I especially love track two, "Broken Dream"
