So What Is Going On?
What's With All The Fuss?
Why Have, All Of A Sudden, Several Thousand Canadian Fans Been left in the dust?
As so many of you have probably heard, the confirmed dates for the North
American leg of the Backstreet Boys' "Millennium" tour were released
this week. Now at the time, so many of you were thrilled to have the
chance to find out just when they would be coming to your hometown.
However, can do you remember your surprise you scrolled down the entire
list and not once did your western city come up along side a venue?
(Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, or Vancouver) In fact not a
single date is booked for any Western Canadian arena and out of all
forty dates, only three have been reserved for Canadian venues. Canada
has been declared the Boys' NUMBER ONE fan base in the world, surpassing
all of Europe and even their very own home country with ease. The two
concerts in Alberta (Calgary) sold 18,000 seats out in less than 40
minutes. (Edmonton) Originally sold 11,000 and when that sold out they
added another 12,000 seats and relocated to a venue that would, in fact
accommodate as many fans as possible. 23,000 seats were sold and yet
this still left thousands of fans with out a ticket to the concert.
Edmonton was their largest crowd on the west coast, bringing in just
under 24,000 fans, and they're not coming back? In past interviews the
Backstreet Boys themselves have spoke of how they have been given the
opportunity to move to larger venues, with larger crowds but have chosen
to decline because they want to keep the concerts at a personal level.
If this is so, then why are they forgetting about the country in which
their first North American fans reside? I myself don't consider
performing in three cities on one side of the country keeping it at a
personal level. Screams of joy and cheers of enthrallment with nowhere
to be heard. Melodies, tunes and lyrics, with nowhere to be sung but in
our sullen homes as we watch the videos of the group we should be seeing
live. (And trust me, the videos just don't have the same effect!) When
did we miss the Referendum…Is Canada only made up of two provinces now?
Yes the Boys did start out in Europe, and yes the US is their home
country, but if you are going to do a North American tour, please then
do so, and if you want to throw in a few Canadian venues, go right
ahead. But please do not raise the hopes of thousands of Canadians only
to bring them crashing down during the five minutes it takes to read the
Concert Listings. However, no matter how hurt we are, we Canadians are
loyal and we are not going down without a fight! We are looking for
suggestions and opinions, from BSB and non-BSB fans alike, as to what we
should do. Canadians and Americans, and fans from all around the world,
we need your support! So join the list, we may not succeed in bringing
the Boys to us, but know that even the slightest chance of doing so
makes this all worthwhile! So Nick, A.J., Brian, Howie and Kevin...LOOK
OUT! Our Backstreet Pride is coming alive. We will show you just what
you are missing by skipping out on the northern part of your North
American Tour.
