These are cd's that i have bought in the past 6 months. some might be old to you, while some might be new to you, but they were released at different times. Send me recommendations of punk ska or hardcore cd's to review (nothing else, please!) and i will review it as soon as i buy it. Seeing as these are cd's I have bought in the past 6 mo., you will also see what i like and if it is also what you like, you may value my reviews a bit more.

1.Give 'Em the Boot

Record Company: Hellcat Records

Tracks: 20

Style: Ska and punk

Comments: 'Great cd. Hellcat Records, owned by Tim Armstrong of Rancid, Operation Ivy, and Dance Hall Crashers fame, has quite the lineup here. Bands included are: Rancid, the Slackers, Hepcat, the Pietasters, VooDoo GlowSkulls, Dropkick Murphy's, Skinnerbox, the Upbeat, Stubborn All-Stars, the Gadjits, Union 13, US Bombs, Swingin Utters, the Skatalites, the Silencers, Pressure Point, Choking Victim, F-Minus, and the Dave Hillyard Rocksteady 7. This cd portrays very well the swing side of ska.'

Recommended if you like:The Skatalites, Rancid, Hepcat.

2.TEN YARD FIGHT- Back On Track

Record Company:Equal Vision Records

Tracks:14

Style:straight edge hardcore

Comments: This is a grrrrrreat cd for those of you who enjoy sXe music. Great message.

Recommended if you like: Minor Threat, Earth Crisis

3.SNAPCASE- Progression Through Unlearning

Record Company: Victory Records

Tracks: 10

Style: Hardcore

Comments: At first when i reviewed this I hated it. First impressions are important, and this cd didn't make a good one on me. However, once I got into i said, 'Sheesh these guys are great.' Now, even though it took some getting used to, I would deeply and enthusiastically recommend this album to any hXc enthusiast. Great XXX morals, too. Even includes a bonus track of the loner/rebel himself, Pee Wee Herman, accompanied ny Dottie and an organ. The cd's high point is the first song, 'Caboose.'

Recommended if you like: Strife, Strongarm, Earth Crisis.

4.Forthwright- My Soul Secure

Record Company: Morphine/ F5 Records

Tracks:6

Style:Straight Edge Hardcore, spirit-filled

Comments: This band deserves a great review. They have uplifting lyrics, great vocals, and thrashing guitars. They mix in a variety of spoken parts, ala Strongarm, to comlete the ensemble. Look out for these guys, I think they might be something big.

Recommended if you like: Mouthpiece, Ten Yard Fight, 44evergiven

5. MXPX (Magnified Plaid)- Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo

Record Company: A&M Records

Tracks: 16

Style: Melodic Pop Punk

Comments: Ever heard Life In General and Pokinatcha by these punk rock heroes from Bremerton, WA? Think of the faster guitars of Pokinatcha mixed with the beatiful harmonies of Life In General and you will come up with MXPX's newest, 'Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo.' They have taken alot of flak for leaving Tooth and Nail Records, a predominantly Christian label, and switching to the secular A&M, but it obviously hasn't slown them down. An ABSOLUTE must-hear.

Recommended if you like: Slick Shoes, Descendants, Craig's Brother, the Cootees

6. Millencolin- For Monkeys

Record Company: Burning Heart/ Epitaph Records

Tracks: 12

Style: Pop punk with a bit of ska

Commments: These punks, hailing from Sweden, have certainly done it again. They took the harmonies I grew to love on 'Life On a Plate,' and added some poppier tunes. This is on gooooooooood album.

Recommended if you like: MXPX, NOFX, I Against I

7. DESCENDANTS- Everything Sucks

Record Company: Epitaph Records

Tracks: 15

Style: New shool pop punk

Comments: Well I've had more e-mails asking me to review this cd than Clinton has girlfriends, so here it is. The Descendants are one of the founding pop punk bands-- they set the standard for who is 'good' and who, well, sucks. The guitars are innovative, the drums are fast, the bass is ground breaking, and Milo Aukerman's vocals are the best I've heard in a loooooooong time. Two words from me to you inspired by this album: BUY THIS.

Recommended if you like: MXPX, the Cootees, Osker

8.Punk-O-Rama Volume 3

Rec. Co.: Epitaph

Tracks:25

Style: Various Punk styles

Comments:This cd kicks butt. There are punk legends like Bad Religion, NOFX, and Rancid, and well as newcomers such as I Against I, Union 13, and the Dwarves. An all around great cd, with the exception of the Cramps, who deeply deserved to have been "given the boot" from this record.

Recommended if you like: Bad religion, ten foot pole, nofx, union 13.
