Bruce Guthro-October 11

Bruce Guthro a singer/songwriter from Sydney Mines, Cape Breton Nova Scotia. Bruce had 3 East Coast Music Award nominations in 1996. He won the SOCAN songwriter of the year award in 1997 at the same award show. Bruce took home this years Rising Star award at the Canadian Country Music Awards which were held in Vancouver. When I heard he won the rising star award all I could do was smile. To me Bruce Guthro is already a star, a bright star that can only become brighter. The first time I heard Bruce was 5 years ago in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I'll be honest and say I didn't become a fan instantly. The music didn't really do anything for me, but there was something about this man that caught my attention. I was lucky enough to see him again that same year before I moved to Ontario. I finally figured out what had caught my attention before.. It was the way he sang, not the words he sang. I thought his voice was incredible. The next time I saw Bruce I was living in Ontario and hadn't heard a word about him since moving there. I was sitting home looking for something to watch on television and I came across this video on CMT. It was Natalie MacMaster, and who was that singing? Bruce Guthro of course. The song? "Fiddle & Bow", to this day is one of my favorite videos. Next came his release, "Walk This Road", then his CD "Of Your Son" (which is amazing:). His latest single "Falling" has been riding the charts here in Canada for quite some time now. It is a beautiful song with so much feeling.. Bruce is also the new member of the Scottish group Runrig. He plans to continue his solo career and tour with Runrig. Best of luck to you Bruce. Cheers.... You can visit Bruce Guthro’s official homepage here Written by: Angela Boudreau
