PUNK    and    SKA    Bands    "D"

DESCENDENTS
Descendents Everything Sucks
Epitaph Records
2798 Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90026

This is one of my favorite albums which features quick heartfelt pop punk, mixed with great sounding vocals. The instrumental is cool because it has its own original sound that not many other punk bands have. I really like the vocals of Milo Aukerman, and I think they really stand out on this album. The vocals and the instrumental blend for a very cool very original sound that any pop punk fan will appreciate. These guys have been around forever, but I'm pretty sure this is their poppiest album. I recommend this cd to fans of All (all the guys from Descnedants are in this band except for Milo) or of fabs of poppy truthful heartfelt punk. Favorite songs include "Everything Sucks", "I'm The One", "Coffee Mug", "Sick O Me", and the rest of this album is very good too. I give it a 9.

DESCENDENTS

Descendents Somery
SST Records
PO Box 1
Lawndale, CA 90260

This album is a collection of shit from 5 other Descendents releases, so I guess its like a greatist hits cd or something like that. The instrumental is different on every song, but a little of it sounds like on Everything Sucks, but it just doesn't stand out and sounds average. The types of songs and their vocals are different too, some of it sounds like typical 80's ounk, some sounds like ok unoriginal pop punk, and some sounds like that surf punk crap. I really don't like this cd because it doesn't sound like Everything Sucks, and to be truthful isn't good at all. Most of this album is either too slow, or short and fast like Coffee Mug. I only recommend this album if you've heard old Descendents and like it. Once again it sounds nothing like Everything Sucks. I give it a 3.5.

DROP KICK MURPHIES

Dropkick Murphies Do Or Die
Hell Cat Records
2798 Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, Ca 90026

Some say that the Dropkick Murphys are irish oi, others say that they're 77 style street punk. Well, whatever all I know is that they're very good. Some of their shit is really fast and punk with cool catchy choruses. Their other stuff is slow with quick parts, whhich I really don't like as much. Also a song or two features a bag pipe which is really cool. When I first heard about these guys I thought the irish accent would be annoying, but actually it kinda adds to the music. If you like quick irish punk that you can chant to, get this album! Favorite songs include "Cadence To Arms", "Do Or Die" , and "Memories Remain". I give them a 7.5.

Drunk In Public

Drunk In Public Tapped Out
Fearless Records
13772 Goldenwest St. #545
Westminster, Ca 92683

Ok, I agree, these guys have a stupid name, so what because they rule! They play quick poppy punk, with vocals that are actually sung. They're instrumental isn't really punk, but more alturna-punk, without all the weak crappy stuff. I caan't really review this band without mentioning that their bass is really cool, especially their slap bass. The vocals are really cool(actually sung) and unlike most poppy bands the vocals aren't snotty at all. The whole album is great but here are my favorites "Everyday", "XLR8", and "Don't Give Up". I recommend this to fans of early Green Day, early Queers, and of pop punk that isn't typical Fat Wreck fair. I give them a 9.5.

Dynamite Boy

Dynamite Boy Hell Is Other People
Offtime Records
Po Box 220763
El Paso, TX 79913

These guys are really cool and sound like a hopped up version of early Green Day. The instrumental is quick pace, with a few start and stop guitar riffs. The vocals also sound a little like old Green Day with less snotty accent and more sing along choruses and ewws and ahhhs. I love everysong on this album so I really don't have a favorite. Fans of early Green Day, Pinhead Circus, and fast pop punk should right Offtime Records right now and get this album. I give it a 9.
