Mad Caddies Quality Soft Core
Honest Don's Records
Po Box 192027
San Francisco, Ca 94119
The Mad Caddies are a great original band that mixes ska, punk, and some
reggae. Also some of their sounds sound like something you'd hear in
traditional Latin American music. The instrumental is quick paced ska guitar,
with peppy horns. Also a lot of this album has guitar and horns that sound
very original and makes the album that much better. The vocals have their own
unique sound that blends great with their music. Favorite songs include "I'm
So Alone", "Distress", and "No Se`". Buy this album if you like ska/punk and
want to listen to something very original. I give it a 9.5.
Mad Caddies Duck and Cover
Fat Wreck Chords
PO Box 193690
San Francisco, Ca 94119-3690
This is the Mad Caddies 2nd realease, which really doesn't pick up where
their last album left off. This album isn't bad, its just different, its less
original, but much faster. The guitar is a lot less ska, and a lot more punk.
The horns play faster, louder stuff that just sounds like a lot of other
ska/punk bands horns. The vocals on this album are also a lot less unique,
and blends more like typical Fat Wreck stuff. Parts of this album are great,
especially the stuff that sounds like their first album. Favorite songs
include "No Hope", "One Shot", and "The Joust". Buy this album if you liked
their first album or like typical ska/punk with a little twist. I give it an
8.
Middlefinger Quickie!
9216 Oak Arbor Dr.
Conroe, Tx 77384
This is Middlefinger's 2nd realease which I think is way better than their first. Middlefinger plays a combination of ska, punk, and quick heavy stuff, with the majority being noticed as ska/punk. The instrumental goes from cool ska guitar to quick heavy guitar in just seconds (sorry no horns). The vocals are insane with the lead singer projecting a variety of different voices and sounds. I can't mention Middlefinger without mentioning their fucking crazy, but great lyrics (most of the time all the lyrics go for is rhyming). All these aspects lead to a crazy, original, and great band. Favorite songs include all of them on this album except "Dog Rape". Buy this album if you want to hear an original band working their hardest to entertain their audience. I give it a 9.
Middlefinger 3 Martini Lunch
9216 Oak Arbor Dr.
Conroe, Tx 77384
This is Middlefinger's first and less entertaining album. I say less entertaining, but this album is still very good. The instrumental is still all over the place with a mix of ska, punk, and hard heavy stuff. The vocals are still great with a bunch of sounds and voices coming from the lead singer. And yes, the lyrics are still goofy, fun, and aiming just to rhyme. This album may sound just the same as Quickie, but some of the energy and sound are just missing on this one. This album is still very good, and if you liked Quickie a lot, you'll want to buy this one too. Favorite songs include "Punx Not Fred", "Mud", and "Nine Inch Norge". I give it a 7.5.
Millencolin Life On A Plate
Epitaph Records
2798 Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, Ca 90026
To describe Millencolin I'd have to say that they're a poppy Swedish skate punk band. They do a great job at blending typical skate punk, with original ska guitar. Their instrumental is quick and skate punkish, which reminds me of Nofx, with quick ska guitar. The vocals have a distinctive Swedish accent, which goes great with their style of music. Their only downfall is minor and its that their lyrics are a bit childish, while being childish they still get their point across. All together Millencolin does a tremendous job at blending styles, which makes this a great cd. Favorite songs include "Bullion", "Move Your Car", and "The Story of My Life". I give them a 9.
Millencolin For Monkeys
Epitaph Records
2798 Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, Ca 90026
This is Millencolin's second US release, which to me was basically a disapointment and sucks. To make it easier for the people reading this page to understand, look at my last review and make all the good parts negative. Yes, the instrumental is still fast and skate punkish with a little ska guitar, but something is lost and just doesn't sound good. The vocals still have a Swedish accent, but this time its more accented and slurred (Very annoying). The overall sound is very different and really just boring. If you liked Life On A Plate be cautious when buying this album. I give it a 4.
Minor Threat Complete Discography
Dischord Records
3819 Beecher, St NW
Washington, DC 20007
Minor Threat is a classic punk band, that any fan of punk has to hear at least once. Their style is easily described as loud, aggressive, and in your face old school punk. Their instrumental is simple, loud, and fast, which goes along great with Ian MacKaye's screamed out vocals. Their lyrics are usually political, personal, or social. All in all this album blends together to be one of the most popular old school albums. Favorite songs include "Straight Edge", "Guilty of Being White", and "Out of Step". For being classic punk I give it a 10, but for the music I'd prefer a 7.
Let me start off by saying that these guys are great for two reasons: 1. They're the first band to send me something to review. 2. Their music kicks ass! First off, their instrumental sounds a lot like a sped up version of Less Than Jake, with more of a punk element than LTJ. Their vocals are quick ska-punk that sounds perfect along side their quick ska guitar and horns. Their lyrics are comical and fun; and their all around sound makes me wanna get up and skank.( They get bonus points for using the Inspector Gadget Theme) Favorite songs: all of them. Buy this album if you like quick ska-punk with a comical element. I give them an 8.5. Thanks again for sending me something to review, and for the free stickers. Keep up the great work guys.
