the history of SKIN YARD

Skin Yard began when Jack Endino and Daniel House started playing together in early 1985. Matt Cameron, who was previously in an instrumental trio called Feedback with Daniel and Tom("Nerm") Herring, joined the band on drums later that year. Also, Matt came up with the name(SKIN YARD) which doesn't mean anything, but they thought that it was weird enough to be a name for the band. Soon after, in April '85 Ben McMillan joined, and they played their first gig in June opening for the U-Men. Matt left the band in March '86 to, later, join Soundgarden. Then they played 2 gigs with Steve Weid(from TAD) and 2 gigs with Greg Gilmore(of Mother Love Bone, later Doghead and Ten Minute Warning), until they found someone who would make a more temporary replacement. That fall they were joined by Jason Finn(later in Presidents of the USA) who left the band after eight months for personal reasons. In May '87 they found Scott McCullum(aka Norman Scott, later of Gruntruck) who played with them 'til May '89 when he left the band after the griveous US tour the band remembers as "the tour from hell."

So, the band actually didn't exist for about 14 months, until they found Barrett Martin(now of Screaming Trees, Mad Season, Tuatara). He was in the band all the way to the end. Daniel left the band in March '91 because he became a father and wanted to be a good daddy. He was replaced by Pat Pedersen(later of Sister Psychic). Apparently, it was going down for them, so Ben started Gruntruck with Norman Scott and Tommy from the Accused(darn, I can't make those two dots over the "u"), Barrett and Pat were jamming with Jack in Endino's Earthworm. Daniel is now running C/Z Records, Ben's Gruntruck has recently stopped playing, and Endino's Earthworm is working on their second record(Endino's third solo record).

Though Skin Yard never signed with a major label, it built up a strong following in the United States and Europe. I guess that I am a living example. SKIN YARD IS TWO FUCKING WORDS!!
