Many hunters think that without hunting, deer and other animals will over populate and die of starvation. The truth is that many deer herds and duck populations are manipulated to produce
more and more animals for hunters to kill.
Animals do feel pain. Hunting disrupts families and causes trauma, and grief to both the victims and survivors. For animals like wolves, who mate for life and have close knit families, hunting can serverly harm entire communities. Hunting is very stressful for the animals. The noise, the fear, and the constant chase severely restricts their ability to eat adequately and store the fat and energy they need to survive the winter.
Starvation and disease are natures way of ensuring that the strong survive. Natural predators help keep prey species strong by killing only the sick and weak.
Hunters kill the strong, healthy animals needed to keep the population strong. After hunting season, the abrupt drop in population leads to less competition among survivors resulting in a higher birthrate.
Other ways to keep animals from starving are - taking steps to reduce the animals fertility or, preserving natural predators such as wolves, coyotes and mountain lions.
