Chapter 20: And The Bug Dies

"Paul, you're late!" Jordan barked.

"Twenty minutes, I know. But it's not like you can't do a sound check without me, it has been done before," Paul responded glumly. Jordan glared at him for a few seconds, turned beat red and stormed off, assumingly to beat an inanimate object.

"What the hell crawled up his ass and decided to fester?" Paul asked the dumbfounded members of Premiere. Paul had spend so much time kissing that man's ass, and to now deliberately defy him was a shock to them.

"Don't know. Paul, are you okay? You don't look so hot," Sandy asked, concerned.

"Tired. Sleep, required and stuff. Performing, bad. Sleep good," he answered. The rest voiced their agreement. "Finance meeting in ten minutes."

Everyone groaned. This was not what they had intended to spend the next hour before things got crazy in readiness for their next concert, doing.

"I vote for a group nap. Any seconds?" called Damon.

"I second, third and fourth that," Sandy said, rolling her eyes. Just then a loud noise caught their attention. They looked uninterestedly over to the corridor, when they saw Lilia.

"Hey guys! Look like you could use a pick me up!" she exclaimed.

"Perkiness. I remember having that once," Sandy said. Lilia then motioned to what she was carrying in her hands. There was a tray of four extra-large cups of coffee, and a portable stereo.

"Four double lattes, with extra whipped cream. C'mon guys, what better way to get energy then by downing large amounts of caffeine?" she asked. A chorus of sighs echoed as they each snagged one and sighed at the bliss of spending a few silent minutes, enjoying their dose of caffeine. After they had finished, Lilia put her next part into action.

"Okay, now we're going to have fun because you guys are dragging me down!" she exclaimed. She plugged the stereo in, and pulled something out of her shoulder bag. She turned around, hiding the object from the other's view. When she was finished with it, keeping it well hidden, she turned on the stereo, only to blast a loud shot of fast Latin music.

"Baby, what are you doing?" Damon demanded. She turned around and revealed a large beach ball.

"You all remember, right? What better way to get excited, than to have a beach "volley" ball game to Latin music, after downing a large amount of caffinated beverages? Get into it! I call Damon and Sandy!" she called, tossing the ball in the direction of the rest of them. They slowly stood up, and joined in the game.

After a half hour, the game was in full swing, a riot of laughing, batting, giggling, swinging and absolute silliness. Sandy dove for the ball and volleyed it. The light ball flew over their heads, and smashed into the forehead of a very unimpressed looking tour manager.

"Jordan…I'm sorry," Sandy squeaked. Jordan looked at her for a moment, then grinned. He picked up the ball, batted it to Lilia, then ran over to the side that Paul's team occupied.

"You guys have uneven teams," he explained, shrugging his shoulders.

"Hey, you guys were great today," Nick said. Premiere all nodded their thanks. They were about to head out when Nick pulled Nick back.

"What's up, Nick?"

"Is Lily pissed at me? I think she got the wrong impression about something a few days ago, and I just wanted to make sure that she wasn't mad at me. She hasn't said a word to me since," Nick explained.

"Not that she's mentioned to me. In fact, she was in a fabulous mood today. What'd you do?" Paul asked menacingly. Too late, Nick remembered Paul's over-protectiveness, and tried to find the right way to explain what had happened.

"I took her to see this little girl that I've fallen in love with, she's such a cutie. And Lily thought it was meant to be a message about not singing and how she should because other people that want to, can't," Nick said, and then retold the events of that day.

"But isn't that what you wanted to happen Nick? Isn't that what you wanted her to see?" Paul asked perceptively.

"Well…not that specifically, and not so obviously. I just didn't want her to think that that was what I really had in mind," Nick explained.

"Nice try, but we've all tried, and that girl is as stubborn as a mule. She won't budge on it. But we're glad that you're joining in the fight, because we really want her to sing again. It's all because of Greg's mother, she blames Lilia. So Lilia has to punish herself somehow, so she took away singing," Paul explained sadly.

"Paul, can I ask you a favor?" Nick asked.

"Shoot," Paul said.
