A Special Request: July 19th, 2001.
Okay, so we got 'our' AJ in rehab. Before you groan, swing that mouse over to the 'back' button on your web browser, hear me out. This isn't one of those "I support you all the way blah blah blah" letters, or one of the "how could he let us down blah blah blah" rants either. It's a special request.
Let me explain. As a writer of fiction, I tend to take examples out of real life and turn them into situations pliable to my stories. Many other authors do this as well. It helps to create a believable story, and realistic characters. For example, the idea for "Priorities" came to me when went with some friends to their first show (they were playing at a local showcase. Great band, by the way.) Now, some fic writers tend to take real situations that have happened to the Boys and used THEM for their stories. (AHH, now we know what she's getting at....)
Now, I don't read stories that have anything to do with Brian's heart surgery, or that include stuff about the death of Kevin's father, or Howie's sister. I think that it's disrespectful, and that we are trivializing what they went through, as people not celebrities, during these situations by writing them in a way that may not be true to life. Some of it hits too close to home. While they have no privacy at all in the life they have chosen, some things should be left alone.
And now, with AJ in rehab, I have a feeling that a lot of authors might use this as a new angle for a story. I think that is wrong, and I sincerely hope that no one will do that. That would disappoint me tremendously, and even though I technically have no right to, I would horribly slander that story on my page for different reasons. Reason #1: I think that's wrong (see above) and Reason #2: I'm a heinous bitch.
So show some respect.
