Chapter 1
A Star with no light
A day with no night
If I don't have you
"Looks like you've got a fan," Kevin leaned over to Nick, gesturing in the woman's direction
"She's been staring at me for over an hour now. It's starting to annoy me," Nick answered back, observing the unabashed way she was staring straight at him, not at all trying to hide it. She wasn't his type; the blond, made-up, super model wannabe girl who would be after only one thing. It was written all over her face as she met his glance and raised her eyebrows at him.
Nick looked away from her aquamarine eyes, which he assumed were coloured by contacts. He had no interest in her, she was too fake and blatant for him. Those kind of girls were all so typical. He had encountered so many of them before, it was hard not to group them all under a stereotype.
"What's the matter Nick? Not liking all the attention?" Sarah, AJ's girlfriend asked as he made a move to leave.
"Leave the kid alone, Sarah. I'd be leaving too, if I had that shark on my tail," AJ said, putting his arm around Sarah.
"You're damn straight that you'd leave if a girl like that was interested in you. You're my toy, and I don't share very well," she cooed. Nick rolled his eyes as the two of them got gushy and started an "I love you more" battle.
He stood up, and nodded his appreciation to AJ for rescuing him from Sarah's teasing, and made his way towards the door. As he walked by, he noticed the woman who had been staring at him start to follow him, and he quickened his pace, anxious to make it out before she caught up with him.
He reached the door, and swung it open carelessly and stopped dead when it hit someone on the other side. His victim fell over and he rushed over to see what damage he had done.
"I am so sorry, I didn't see you there," Nick said as he reached out to help the person up.
"You should be! I think you knocked out my tooth!" a female voice responded, sociably sarcastic.
"Again, I apologise. Are you alright?"
"Sure. My dentist'll love you though," she smiled, a pair of blue eyes twinkling back at him. Meeting them, he was struck by an odd compulsion.
"Can I buy you a drink, to ease your pain?" he asked, obeying the compulsion, finding her careless and forgiving attitude appealing.
"Certainly sir," she answered.

"So, the tour is almost over. How ya feeling?" Lilia asked Paul over the phone.
"Tired. But excited. We get a month off, then we're doing our own North American tour. Record sales have been phenomenal," Paul's voice said, distorted by static.
"That's fabulous! So, when are you and Sandy getting hitched?" Lilia prompted him.
"Not you too! You've become my mother! The second she found out about Sandy and me, she started nagging me! When we feel like it, my dear. Not a second sooner, Baby. So, what's going down at Genuine?" he asked.
"Not a lot. It's been kinda slow lately. A new spot opened down the street, exact same formula as Genuine. It's starting to worry my aunt," Lilia confessed.
"Don't worry about it. Genuine is just that, genuine. Everyone loves it and things will pick up soon, don't worry about that. But…do you want Premiere to play a few shows during our down time?"
"That would be fabulous! But you'll need your rest. You don't want to work then, trust me," she answered.
"Playing in Genuine isn't work," he answered.
"Well, enjoy the rest of the tour and then we'll see how you feel," she answered.
