On May 29th 1998, Sebastian Bach and friends played at Studebakers
Cabaret in Burnaby, BC, Canada. It was a wicked show from start to
finish! At about 8pm or so, the opening band came out, The Loving Dead.
They were rad! Good choice! Richie Scarlet came out and did one song as
a guest of honor, and he recieved a hale and hearty hello from the
Vancouverites!
When the Loving Dead were done thier wonderful set, the crowd grew
silent. Everyone started casually walking up to the stage, staking thier
territory. The crowd was starting to get rowdy, trying to mosh to the
music that they were playing between the shows. Good old rock tunes like
"Hell's Bells" by AC/DC and "We're Not Going to Take It" by Twisted
Sister. Hair was flying all over as people were getting pumped for the
show.
Then everything went dark. And low music started. Then it got a little
brighter...then everyone except Baz came running out onto the stage,
playing their instruments loud!!! They started into "Slave to the
Grind", and just when the vocals would start, Baz leapt onto the stage
all in splendor in a gold sequinned outfit and started to belt it out!
After the first song, he chatted it up a bit with the locals, and
introduced the band. Jimmy Flemion in the sparkling green wings, Richie
Scarlet in the black, Bam-Bam in the back, Larry in the leather and the
feather.
The rest of the show kicked some major ass, with one rockin' tune
after another. A bunch of oldies,"Sweet Little Sister", "I Remember you"
and "In a Darkened Room", a couple of covers, "Sweet Lief" is the one I
remember most, and some new ones, like "Sleep". By the end of the show,
I knew that even if I had to beg, borrow or steal, I had to go to the
show the next night...
I couldn't talk very well the next day, but I still went to the second
show.
