»»It’s the Things You Do««
----- Chapter Twenty -----
I walk fast down the corridor, barely stopping myself from running, past J (who's now talking to the girl from Destiny's Child) and out to where all the windows are. I lean on a ledge, propping my head up with my hand, and stare out the tinted glass. I could see J look at me as I ran past, and it's pretty obvious what's wrong to everyone who was in the room. Somehow seeing J with that girl made it a million times worse. Everyone's got someone except me. I'm still thinking about this when I feel a hand on my shoulder.
"Is there anything I can do?" Scott asks softly. I shake my head and sniff.
"Scott…I can't cope…seeing them together…" I sob. He sighs,
"I know…" he pulls me into a hug, stroking my hair.
"I spose everyone figured it out now, huh?" I say quietly. I can feel Scott shake his head.
"Marie guessed, and I think Sean figured, but no-one else knows. They all sat there like 'Why did she just do that?'" he explains.
"Oh…" I mutter. I'm just getting over my crying when I feel Scott look up. I hiccup and turn round to see who he's staring at. Abs is standing there, giving me and Scott a weird look. He's either figured out the truth, or he still thinks that me and Scott are together - which doesn’t make sense seeing as Scott's quite obviously with Marie now.
"What's wrong?" he asks me coldly. I don’t like the tone of his voice. It makes me start crying again…and it gets even worse when Danielle makes an appearance from round the corner.
"Are you ready, baby?" she asks Abs, who shoots me and Scott another weird look before following her back round the corner. Fat lot he cares about me, his supposed 'best friend'.
"Scott - I've gotta get out of here…I can't stay..." I say hurriedly.
"But…" he starts.
"Please - I have to. Say good luck to everyone and have fun, ok?" I say. Scott nods, numbly.
"How are you gonna get home?"
"Bus…tube…whatever…" I sniff, "I'll be alright. I'm a big girl."
"Ok. But I'll phone you when I finish alright?"
"Alright."
"I'll phone you, ok?"
"Yeah…" I nod, pulling back from the hug, "I'm gonna go. See ya soon."
"Bye bye."
