Hey you all,
I just got back from the Grand Rapids show tonight. It was so
amazing! I went with four friends who are marginal Liz fans. They liked her, but not as much as I did. They love her now. My roommate kept saying how great of a performer she was. I kind of liked the opening band. I thought they were good, and the bass player was so hot we were all drooling! Liz came out in a little black strappy dress that went to about mid thigh and a little tulle kind of grey sheath over it, and what my friends and I call "fuck me boots," knee high black boots. She looked gorgeous!! Liz was very relaxed and said she liked playing for the crowd a lot, she "got good vibes" from it. She played the same set as it seems she has at all the other concerts. I really liked her new songs. I only took one picture because my friends and I went up to the stage and I didn't bring my camera. I didn't have anywhere to hide it and didn't want it taken away. I'm just praying that the picture turns out. The place she played was a small venue so it was really cool. She talked to the crowd a little and shook our hands. She is so cute on stage. During "Flower" she kept giggling. It was so adorable. I tried to get a set list after the concert, but there were no more. Oh well, I will always have the memories. I tried to hang out for awhile after the show because someone said she might come back out, but my friends had to get home to do work. It was a couple hour drive from Ann Arbor to GR. Well worth the trip though. I would go see her again in a moment. It was amazing!
WOW! I saw LIZ PHAIR - basically more or less front row..one person infront of me - but it was my best friend -so we alternated.
I got Liz's attention a few times..and even got myself sorta INTO a segue to a song..here is my LIZ PHAIR dialogue..
LIZ - "It was my birthday just a few days ago..."
(few cheers from the audience...silence..)
DAN(me) - "WOO HOO! It's my birthday today! Sing happy birthday to me!!!"
LIZ - chuckled..."WEll..i guess i could sing CINCO DeMayo.."
HAHAHAAH! and then she did her Cinco DeMayo. i was being totally obnoxious..but i think she got a chuckle out of it..she came over to our side once, and i got to shake her hand..she was so amazing..she looked great.. I did a few "Woo hooo's" at the opening - and she glanced over at one point and gave a little smile and nod....it was rather uplifting to see someone (even though it wasn't a FORMAL MEET) who i have dolized for soo long to actually send me some sort of acknowlegement.
at any rate - it was a great show - the band seemed incredibly tight..she flat out just blew me away..my favorite moment (aside from the birthday LIE I told her..it wasn't my birthday - it was just a desperate attempt on my part for attention) was CHOPSTICKS - the opening..and probably FUCK AND RUN. It was totally rockin.. PERFECT WORLD was like..a beautiful moment too...her voice was incredible.
She sang 2 new songs "FIREWALKER" and the OTHER new song was called "DON't APOLOGIZE".
"DON'T APOLOGIZE" totally ROCKED out - gonna be incredible..i really hope she uses them for upcoming albums...at any rate - if anyone was there - and happened to tape the show - I would really LOVE a copy - for nostalgia's sake..hell ..my voice is on there..please email me and we can work something out..it was great..hopefully next time I can REALLY meet Liz - but that sure did work for one hell of a powerful LIZ FIX! It rocked.
