So i went to chicago this weekend. i was supposed to go to two shows, but friday was an adventure in itself involving the chicago p.d. and loyola didn't happen. i was sad about not getting to sing flower, but i made it to u of chicago and it was very cool. you had to have an armband to stand in the pit at that one. i didn't, but we managed it anyway. liz played chopsticks, fuck and run, stratford on guy, johnny feelgood, never said, mesmerizing, firewalker, don't apologize, cinco de mayo, go on ahead, wcse, divorce song, perfect world, polyester bride, uncle alvarez, flower and i think that might have been it. someone got a setlist after the show, but that someone wasn't me. she let me read it though, and so i saw that liz cut out dance of the seven veils in favor of either stratford or never said. someone else got a drumstick.
after the show i got to meet liz which was very cool. and she told me that columbus was cancelled because she hadn't agreed to as many shows as were booked and so she was cutting out some in order to spend time with her family. i guess colleges she has to play or else they will sue, but columbus was at a club, so it got axed. however, she said she felt bad about it for the fans and that she might try to tack it onto the end of the tour. she just was upset about being scheduled to play when she didn't agree to it before hand. i have to say that as much as it is disappointing that she isn't going to be in columbus tomorrow, i really think it's cool that she cares so much about her family. i respect that. anyway at the beginning of the encore the audience sang happy birthday to her and janet brought out a cake and liz blew out the candles. people requested stuff like bloodkeeper and she said "there are people out there who know songs that have never left the recording studio. it's like there are these spies in the studio with microphones, but you know what, that's okay because i forget everything so it's good that there is a record of that stuff out there somewhere."
um what else. oh they have a new drummer, but i liked ric better to be quite honest. the new drummer is named mario and he wasn't bad, ric just rocked my world. the opener was david mead. he wasn't too bad, but he wasn't my taste. he was one of the best openers i have seen before though. oh yeah! since i got to go backstage i got to have a piece of the cake! they threw away almost half of it! it was cookies n cream ice cream cake. i was happy and excited. i mean i got to eat a piece of liz's birthday cake. wow. my friend took a picture of her piece. liz wasn't around when we were eating it she was with her friends, so it wasn't quite like i was eating cake with her, but it was still cool. almost like i was at liz's birthday party.
during the show some people passed up a bouquet and she threw some individual flowers into the crowd. also some people passed up a big posterboard that said happy birthday liz, welcome home. it was hot pink and had two mylar ballons on it. liz was wearing a red skirt and a light gray tank top. when she played flower she didn't pullanyone on stage but she said "this song got me in a lot of trouble." and then when she played go on ahead she said "this is very personal for me it's from the new album." don't apologize rocked. firewalker i couldn't hear the words to, but it was still cool. all in all it was a very cool weekend. and that's my story.
