Coming from widely divergent ensembles; John from a funk band, Ken from a punk band, and Trey from his own straight-ahead rock n' roll group, the band threw all their styles into a decidedly stronger entity called....Skillet.

"Skillet started on the premise that we wanted to watch people get saved," says John Cooper. We've been seeking ways to preach to people in a manner that's not offensive in a secular setting." That's significant because as Christian bands like DC Talk and Jars of Clay achieve unprecedented levels of mainstream success, Skillet also hopes to cast its net as widely as possible. "That's not even a hidden ambition with us, says John. "We always wanted to reach a secular audience. We want to reach kids who never heard the Gospel or heard of it but have run away from God." Adds guitarist Ken Steorts, "We hope to play a role in helping spark a worldwide revival."
