Robbie's Festival Concert and Meeting with Duncan
I went to the singer/songwriter festival in philadelphia purely to see Duncan. The festival was sponsored by a local radio station 88.5. If you were a member of the station you were privilaged to meet and greet the artists. I joined just so that I would have the opportunity to meet the man that I admired so much. Anyway, his connecting flight was cancelled or something to that affect, and it was announced that he would be late, and not able to do the meeting and greeting sessions.
I was feeling pretty pissed at the time. I had bought a membership for nothing, I thought. However my friend and I were not so easily discouraged. We waited at the artists arrival gate for Duncan. When he came in I didn't recognize him since he had cut his hair short. He went back to his trailer to get ready and we waited some more. 20 minutes later he emerged, but told me regretfully, that he was in a bit of a rush, and to hang around after his set. I told him that i thought his music was great and he said thanks and gave me a smile.
He didnt have a lot of time to play because of arriving late. The songs that he did play were fabulous though. He played Rubbed Out, That Says It All, Alibi, She Runs Away, Wishfull Thinking, and Barely Breathing.
After realizing that Barely Breathing was to be his closing number I hurried to the stage gate and waited along with a few other people. As the song concluded the area was swamped with fans. He came to the gate and gladly began signing. The first item he accepted was a kids frisbee. (haha I dont know) The kid gave him a ball point pen to sign it with on top of that. He asked if anyone had a sharpie pen .....and guess who did? I gave him my pen and he assured me of an autograph. After signing a few he found me out of the crowd and personalized my CD booklet of his first album. I told him that his songs meant a lot to me and had helped me through some really difficult times. He seemed happy with the comment and asked if he could hold onto my pen for a bit. I told him to keep it and walked away the happiest Ive ever been.
