Alexis's Concert at the El Rey Theater
My friend Debbye was supposed to come with me but she had to bail
because of a last minute schedule change. We were both bummed, but it
turned out for the best on my part. I snagged a seat in the FRONT
ROW!!! I was out of my mind with excitement. The El Rey is a lounge
style theater venue and the seating is unreserved/general admission.
I had a seat on the end stage right. I hear there was a webcast from
the theater, but I haven't seen any pictures so I don't know if you
can spot me.
I have to say that Duncan was so much more at home onstage this time
around. This would be the fourth time I've seen him perform and he
only gets better. I particularly liked this performance because his
new percussionist, Juliet, really livens up the mood. She's
incredible!
But I have to say, Duncan just HATES it when we love him. All night
long, "Come on, guys. Please shut up and sit down." We just screamed
more. And he was SO reluctant to start Barely Breathing. He said he
was embarassed to play it anymore.
If I'm going to be sitting in the front row, I'll have to learn how to
behave myself. Duncan introduced Nothing Special by saying something
along the lines of "This song describes how ridiculous it is to be a
rock star." By the straight look on his face, I'd have to say that he
was somewhere on the serious side of sarcastic, but then he caught me
laughing at him and he started to laugh too! It was so funny. I'm
like, "Oh, my God! I forgot he can see me."
I really had a great time. I hope you get a chance to see him too, if
you haven't already.
