Jenn's Concert in Chicago

Duncan Sheik has really come a long way, musically and as a performer. He played at the Park West in Chicago on 11/15 to a packed house. He opened with "Rubbed Out" from his new album, Humming. His set included "She Runs Away," "In Between," (which he called the "theme" of the new album,) "Alibi," "That Says it All," "A Body Goes Down," "House Full of Riches," "Varying Degrees of Con-Artistry," and "Wishful Thinking," among others. (Sorry, I'm going from memory -- I didn't write the songs down.)

He played to a very excited and attentive crowd, at times overly attentive. Towards the end of the show, as Duncan began belting out the first lines of "Barely Breathing," a fan ran out to the dance floor and treated Duncan to a solo dance rendition of his hit song. Duncan smiled politely . . . then laughed hysterically!!! The dancer kept on with his tribute, and Duncan laughed more and more and more until he couldn't even finish the song! He invited the dancer, named Kenneth, up on the stage to dance behind him so he couldn't see him. Although Duncan managed to get through "Barely Breathing" the second time around, you could see the concentration in his face as he tried not to crack up again. After the song, Duncan commented that he "has so much fun when [he] plays here!"

Duncan finished up his main set with "Bite Your Tongue." He performed two encores, "Home" and "In the Absence of the Sun." Duncan certainly had the crowd in the palm of his hand and he loved every minute of it. All in all, despite the little bloopers during the show, Duncan's performance was strong, confident, and nearly perfect. His guitar work (and that of Spooky Ghost's) was right on, and his vocals were impeccable -- in tune and heart wrenching. :) Not to mention, he looked very hot!
