News is as of Nov. 2nd

Since Boy Kicks Girl's return, I have been to three show. I now have a copy of the new cd (thanks brett), and should have a review of it up shortly. (or as often as i update the page :) Also, during winter break BKG is going to take a short tour (Dec 27th-Jan 7th) through Nevada, Utah, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. Even though it's a school nite, everyone come out the Assorted Jelly Beans show in Santa Cruz, I might even try to make that one! :) That is all the news for now. I hope ya'll had a safe Halloween. Take care.

BKG is back! Well they'll be back for San Jose's SoFA fest in September. Not only that but they will be back with their next full length album titled "Public Display of Aggression". The CD is out on Oct 3rd, and their Cd release party is going to be held at the Southside Community Center. The price is $10. and from what I hear the CD is more rough then the first.

more about the release show as the info comes in. Until then...

Now that some people (two) have sent me some reviews, the page is up. Check it out!!--5-3-98

BKG has decided to take a little break between the months of June through Septemeber. Fortunately though they will be back in the studio recording their second album sometime in June. (should be done sometime in Sept.) So as of now, the last BKG show will be MAY 31st. (my show) All of you better get out there and support them.--5-3-98

I have decided to put up a page for show reviews written by other BKG fans, so as soon as I get some, I shall post them up. Feel free to submit them to me any time. These can be from previous BKG shows as well. --4/13/98

I'm setting up my very first show in San Jose at the Camden Teen Center on May 31st, yes of course BKG is playing, along with Bettys Love Child, Headboard, Summerjack (idaho), Little Tin Frog, Wasted, and Shaft. Plus a special guest to be announced.--3/13/98

Okay in case you didn't know, BKG put together a bootleg, (don't ask me why it's a bootleg if the band did it themselves) but anyhow, if you are interested in receiving your very own limited edition (only 32 made) BKG bootleg, then mail me, and tell me. The tape includes 8 unreleased new songs, two of which don't have lyrics yet. Also, an interview about the bands name, live performances of Killing You, Stand Tall, and I Still Believe, a cover of the Descendents' Marriage, and BKG's own rendition of the Little Drummer Boy. Plus, a live performance of BKG at the KSCU radio station. Just think, you can get all this for a blank tape, and a stamp or two. What are you waiting for?--sometime after christmas

REVIEWS (after some consideration i decided it would be more convienent to put the most recent shows first.)

10-30-98 @ Cactus Club

This was actually one of the funner times I had at the Cactus. BKG opened up the show and sounded pretty good, played through their usual set, not a whole lot of movement from the crowd, but good for the Cactus opening band. (set in no paticular order: Karma, Ode To Me, Dennys Girl, Stand Tall, etc) It's too bad that they couldn't have played later in the show. Concerning Eye followed, once again, one too many concerning eyes for me... I rather enjoyed myself playing baseball and 'poor man's fooseball' w/ Link 80 and Julie. Unfortunately not many people left their stool at the bar to check out the New Mosquitos, I did enjoy them though. Link 80 followed w/ their 'hardcore slammin' sounds'... had the crowd windmilling and doing all kinds of crazy hide me in the corner moves. SNFU headlined, I heard a quick song, then took off. Thanks again brett for the cd, and brandon for the game of fooseball (or however that spelling goes.)

10-3-98 @ Southside Community Center (CD RELEASE!)

Well this was a little easier to remember... the new cd was finally out. Tsunami Bomb opened up to a junior high dance type atmosphere (boys on one side girls on the other) but managed to make it through their set w/ lots of Dominic humor and some bad preaching. :) Outtaline followed... w/ Matt on vocals, they were nothing new, so um nothing new to be said. Nothing Substantial played yada yada yada, then Curbside who just came back from tour, and am glad to admit that I enjoyed them once again. BKG played last of course... and things went well all up to the point when someone lifted a friend up on his shoulders and seconds later came back down on his back/neck, the lights flicked on and the show pretty much came to an end. All in all I was pretty tired after the show, and had a bit of a cold. Not one of my better BKG shows.

9-20-98 @ SoFA Fest (celebrating one year w/ BKG :)

Because I haven't done so well at updating the page, I don't remember how well the show went. It was the first one I went to since they've been back. I imagine it went pretty good, :) as the shows usually do. It was good to have them back.

5-31-98 @ Camden Teen Center (my first show)

I'm only going to do a review of BKG because there were too many other bands for me to review them all. The most memorable part of the show was when Kevin (being the whinny baby of the band) did his own rendition of Killing You, by singing things that go as follows, "I can't wait for this song to end..." and "i hate this fuckin' song..." They did one knew one.. "Karma" and old favorites such as Cuntamination and Dennys Girl. They did have a little "chick pit" going too. Overall the crowd seemed to be really into them, and it was a good last performance for BKG.

5-29-98 @ the Southside Community Center

Because I am only writing the review for the show now (7-4-98) i can't give you a whole lot of detail. Firme opened the show ith their mixture of latin ska/punk. They were decent. Riff Raff, out of Santa Cruz, played after Firme, them, i didn't care for at all. Too many guitar soloing junk. BKG did their usual songs, they had some movement in mosh pit, some unique pitting courtesy of Adam. Overall a good BKG experience. Fury 66, another SC band, were really good... they had lots of raw energy. Last to play was the Siren Six, who I'd call a mod ska band. They blasted out a siren as they came on to stage. Definately one of the more original ska acts that i've seen in a long time.

5-2-98 @ Cactus Club (my tenth BKG show)

For once I don't have anything to complain about, being this show was at the cactus club. Riff Raff, from Santa Cruz, opened up the show, got the crowd doin' a little moshy thing, and played a good set. Next Nothing Substanial played. They were really good, as usual, and kept the crowd going until BKG played. I was pumped and ready to hear the two new songs. The first new one they played did run a little long, but none the less was still good. I did enjoy the second new one a little better though. We Are the Now, Stand Tall, I Still Believe, Dennys Girl were a couple others they did. Once again the crowd was hoping to hear 'Killing You', but it did not happen. I was pleased with the show, and glad that is was a good tenth show for me. Curbside played last, and I have to say I was a little disappointed this time. Mainly due to the fact that the fans were all drunk and filled with the usual assholic atmosphere. Plus they didn't do 'Cheated'. Still it was a good show, and happy I could attend. LATE!

4-18-98 @ Palo Alto Teen Center

What's worse then the gang bangas in east side san jose? getting lost in east palo alto. :) see what we go through to make it to BKG shows? :) once we found our way there, we got there in time to see the last couple songs of Betty's Love Child's set. Then BKG played. Because the show was awhile ago I don't remember most of the songs, I guess they just played the usual. Even though they must have been tired from their earlier show, they still put on a fun-spankin' show. Kevin seemed to get into it a little more than usual, and even smashed a cup. A couple people requested they do 'Killing You'... but they didn't. So why don't they play that anymore? Fortunately after getting lost, and finally making it to the center, we left thinking that at least this show was mucho better than the mountain view one.

4-11-98 @ Camden Teen Center

AUH! After a VERY long four week withdrawal from any shows, and an even longer seven week withdrawal from any BKG shows I was happy to make it to this punk show! DOGFATHER played first, and were definately the lightest punk band of the evening. I did enjoy their I Wanna Be a Bounty Hunter Song, but the hardcore sound I was looking for that evening was not in this band. BKG played next, and I was surprised to see as many people moshing to them as a did. More people moshed to them, then they did to BETTYS or CURBSIDE. BKG did, We Are the Now, Cuntamination, Romper Stomper, Time To Forgive, Age, Anti-Social Girl as well as others. The fun and games almost had to be stopped when a bunch of guys wanted to fight, and this was even after Kevin had orange soda spilled onto his bare feet. Except for the one song Kevin forgot BKG was dandy as usual. BETTYS LOVE CHILD did an awesome set, each time I see this band I love them more and more. The crowd should have given them more credit then they did, but something about this crowd said that they were too cool for everybody anyhow. But I'll be damned if I'd let anybody spoil this show for me, I enjoyed myself mucho grande! CURBSIDE 'headlined' the show, and were definately the most hardcore punk act there. I was mad that they didn't play Junky though. Once again, the crowd didn't give them as much credit as they deserved, more and more of the crowd deserted the place, why? I HAVE NO IDEA! It was their own loss, because this band totally KICKS ASS! ending note--this was a rockin' show!

2-20-98 @ Mtv. View Senior Center

Hmmmmmmm where should I start? Okay I'll start with the first band; the B-Sides. Pretty good, the average length for a song was probably 30 seconds, and the guitarist was a mime with a mic. But they put a lot of energy into their show, and it was a good set. Anti-45's played next, and they were a ska/punk band of some sort. They were pretty good, and got a couple of the members of the audience to dance, and for being that uptight of a place, that was not bad at all! After all that excitement came BKG. Started their set off with Anti-Social Girl, then played I don't remember what. :) I think BKG was having an off night, because it was probably the worst set I've seen yet. Meaning that at least 1/4 of their set (songs) had to be re-started! But it was okay once they got it back together! :) I remember hearing Cuntamination, We Are the Now, Pathetic, Age, Denny's Girl, Romper-Stomper, I Still Believe, Ode To Me, and that's all I can remember. Well after instigating somewhat of a thrash pit, a nice woman came up to the front and yelled at the band to stop, and then lectured us that if we didn't stop we'd have to leave, and the band would have to stop. I think I should have offered that nice lady some milk and cookies, so she'd shut her pie hole. That was the end of mtv view experience, except for it taking us almost half an hour to find the freeway!! not to mention that we had to stop at two gas stations, and one restaurant before finding the center. (thanks Austins!) But the Charleston Chicken Sandwich from Denny's made everything scrum-dittily-umtious!

2-7-98 @ Cactus Club

Alright. I've got a lot to say, so have patience! First off, everyone at the cactus club, except for Kevin and may be a few others are complete assholes! Especially the bouncers! When I get rich from winning the lottery I will open up my own club, and show the freaking cactus club how to have a show! BAM!! just like that! Okay the first band to play was Headboard. I'm sorry to say that I only got to see about ten minutes of the show (busy trying to commute from San Jose to Gilroy and back to San Jose in time) but I got to hear Mattress Disco, which was good. Not to mention that they even had a small crowd dancing to them. Okay after Headboard was Upstart Crow, I had heard of this band about a year ago, but I'd never heard them. It was a nice change of pace. The band was filled with a bunch of teenagers, who had obviously been influenced by Weezer. They did a pretty good set, and still managed to keep the audience moving. Okay after that was Reaction 31. They kicked some ass! 'Cause they play hard core music like Beadle Bailey. Well yeah, so they were really good. It was my first time seeing them... and it definately won't be my last. Up next was Concerning Eye. This was my third time seeing them. Nothing really extra-ordinary, because it was what I expected, but not boring. I spotted the guy from Crack who was in the audience, told him he played a good show last night! Which he did. Okay, then the headlining act of course .. BKG, played next. Alright, they played a couple songs, had a little contest, smashed a few cups, threw a couple shoes, had many singers, a couple "stage divers" and played a lot of songs. Which included all the new ones, about three covers, and about 10 of the older ones. Of course there was a small mosh pit, and of course some people got bumped, and of course some dumb whore complained, and of course one of the asshole bouncers managed to kick someone out for no reason at all! Kevin had a little match making contest where he'd throw a shoe to a crowd of girls, and the other shoe to a crowd of guys, well it turned out two chicks got them! ha! This was because, and I quote... the guys had "already seen the chick that caught the other shoe!" haha! okay well... after that they played some more. Some guy in the audience went up to sing on "we are the now" it was a pretty fair job by him. Dave kept going up on the stage and either played with his tits, or sang... it was pretty funny. Okay well that was about all that happened during the entire show. It was fun. Thanks and come again!

1-3-97 @ The Urinator's House (going away party)

This was a party for my friend Tiffany who is moving to San Diego. Even though the party was planned in about 1 1/2 days, it wasn't a total loss, (even though the jocks and gang-bangers did show up eventually.. patooyee!). BKG played for a pretty long time, playing about 16 songs, I was impressed. We fed the boys Taco Bell, and mingled for a bit. Then after Brett whored out his drums for a bit, they played. They opened with some sexy stripper music. :) Finally Kev agreed to play Tune In Tokyo, but only after whining first. :) We even brought out some cups for Brandon to smash, even though I missed it when he smashed them. Lets see, ok the set list was something like this, We Are the Now, Nothing, Age, Cuntamination, I Still Believe, Dennys Girl, Killing You, Romper Stomper, Stand Tall, Tune In Tokyo, Anti-Social Girl, Pathetic, Ode To Me, White Riot, and a Descendents cover. I think that's all of them.. well ok. That pretty much sums up the evening. Oh and Kev, I'll try to find out where the Pee-Wee shirt came from. :) Thanks again BKG, and don't forget about the postcard.

12-27-97 @ The Gaslighter

This was probably one of the best shows I have ever been to! Caustic Notions didn't show, so BKG played first. Started the show off with their oldest song, Romper Stomper, did some "old" tunes Ode To Me, Killing You, Denny's Girl, The Grocery Store Song, Stand Tall, I Still Believe, then went into the newer stuff, Anti-social Girl, We Are the Now, Time To Forgive. They passed out, and threw out the last of their tapes. I talked my friend into buying a BKG shirt. :) Headboard played after BKG, and they were pretty good. They got some of the crowd dancing. Then Soda played and kicked ass! They played a 7 seconds cover, "Trust", found on their new album. Also they did, bigger mouth, her song, weakest point, poster boy, feb. 30th, and my friend's boyfriend's friend's gay. When Monkey came on about 90% of everyone there was dancing, I had a lot of fun dancing, got tired. Brando was hopping around like a monkey in front of me. ;) Gaslighter was better than I thought it would be. Thanks to all the bands, especially BKG!

12-25-97 @ the Cactus Club

Other than this really bad band that played first, and korn oh i mean insolence, the show was really good. Thanks guys. Lets see, well the Defiant Ones really put on a show. BKG played second and for about 50 minutes. They played mostly new songs. My friend caught a tape, so of course I stole it from him. I was lucky enough to get tape number 5! :) Brando went into his cup smashing routine, but only got to smash one. There wasn't a drum platform for him to jump off of though. Kevin threw out sex toys for the horny members in the audience. The band played a Descendents cover, but this year they didn't do Little Drummer Boy.. :)

12-23-97 @ KSCU

I wasn't there to see them play, but I was here at my house to hear them. They played some of the new ones.. including.. "sweatshirt." :) It sounded like they had a good time doing the show. POPS played for awhile too. I think even longer than BKG.

11-15-97 @ Cactus Club

This was my second time seeing BKG. The openers were pretty good. I liked POPS a lot! HBA is also really good. Not a whole lot of people stuck around for BKG, but of course I did. They played a couple new songs, which were really good. There was this really annoying asshole who was being a dipshit to Kevin, he was thrown out though. It was cool to see some of the fans and friends going up there to sing along with "killing you."

9-21-97 @ SoFA Fest

Sweet but short. Because of the fuckin' cactus running behind schedule, I think they played a total of four songs. It was good while it lasted though.
