12/04/97

It's actually Feb 5/98 and I'm just starting the news page but I'll try and remember  what happened the last couple of months. I just guessed at dates.......

We won swampwater tonight! It was awesome! There were alot of great bands there too! (some not so great ......) I'm still amazed we won. We played two covers (Impresion that  I Get, by the Bosstones, and Sell Out by Reel Big Fish) as well as two originals (Cyber Girlfriend and Superglue), We even made some cash in the process. Splitting 8 ways kinda sucks though. The crowd loved us, it's awesome to see such a great response to ska.

Dec 27/97

I've (Jake) made a little blues band called Blue as Bacon with our drummer Reagan, and our old bass player Phil. I'll have a page up with some sound clips soon. We 've made a demo with Hey Joe (hey, it's kinda blues) , and 4 originals.

Jan 07/98

Exams are coming so things are slowing down a little, looks like we have some gigs coming our way though.

Jan 31/98

We just played at  a winter carnival thing in Kincardine, it wasn't our best preformance. We got to use our banner for the first time though, there'll be some pictures of that up soon.

Feb 03/98

We'll be playing at a rock 'n bowl on the 20th in Port Elgin, they've got a real punny stage covering over two alleys though, I hope we can fit 8 people on it! Last time we only had four, and it was crowded! We're going to be playing at a coffee house at our school too. We may be playing at a little club thingy called the Attic also.

Feb 07/98

I just put on the Blue as Bacon Page here.

Feb 22/98

We just played at Rock 'n Bowl, things went OK I suppose. We were fairley rushed and disorganized, we also didn't have time to do a proper sound check because the guy there didn't let us set up until like 15 minutes before we were supposed to go on. I think that we should play less Greenday and more ska. Hopefuly now that we have a workable set we will be able to take some time to work on some harder songs and write some better songs. Just to continue being bitter we got payed really bad at rock 'n bowl and we ain't going back unless we get a hell of a lot more.

April 15/98

Kevin Grozelle is no longer part of Kurmugeon and we are now pleased to have Ashley Stienhoff singing fulltime. The Battle of the Bands is tommorow and she still has to learn three songs!!

April 17/98

The Battle of the bands was yeasterday and we managed to pull of 2nd place. Considering some of the competition we were very happy to recieve this. The forst plave band was an Owen Sound Blues Band - Jive on Rye, and they were excellent. Third place went to Joel Morreli (forgive spelling mistakes), and acoustic band from Owen Sound. Some of my other favourites were SubjeKt, and of course our other local band - Sand. We won five hours of free recording time so soon we'll have some decent recordings up!! For those of you who want a tape (mabey even CD) perhaps, for a small charge this is..... Ashley did a wicked job so now our band rocks! in my opinion anyways. Oh yeah, how could i forget we also won a gift certificate for 25 dollars!!! WOW that's alot of money (I'm not being sarcastic, really) la-dee-freeking-dah, 25 dollars i'm going to go get some picks mabey even some drum sticks for reagan! ah well, recording time, that's wicked.

May 16/98

Trumpet player Andrew White left the band, and has been replaced (well, not really replaced, cuz no one can replace Andrew!) by me - Chandra. I will be playing trombone, maybe some trumpet, and who knows what else, as it is needed. The band's starting regular practices (which I must say I'm happy about...), so we'll be really really extra wicked very very soon! Once everyone else is done school (haha, suckers, I've been done for weeks!), there'll be more time not only for practicing, but for gigs, and it's gonna be great!!

June 10/98

We've been playing lots lately...back, two weeks ago, we had to gigs on the same day, the first playing at Huron Heights, then at the the KDSS Arts Show, and the following night we played at the Arts Show again. Last week we played at the KDSS Athletic Banquet, and yesterday we played downtown at something to do with Kincardine's Sesquicentennial Reunion. No pay, altho we might be getting some from the Athletic Banquet, but it's lots of fun and great exposure! We taped yesterday's concert, so soon we'll all have copies of the songs, and we can figure out what needs to be fixed. We've got a .wav file of three of the songs, so check it out here. Doupe's working on an MP3 or two, cuz it's better to hear full songs rather than just 5 seconds of them! We may or may not have some of them posted sometime in the near future.

August 6/98

We've been working our butts of latley, we have a cd coming out soon, which we've allready put maney hours into and so far it sounds awesome. We just have to but on the vocals now and then you can buy it (we're only asking money to pay of all of the costs we've had latley ie. 30 hours of studio time.)

On July 30th we held the first anual FieldFest on Phil's Farm. It kicked ass ..... Sortof. It got off to a pretty good start (3 hours late) and the the band Loosing streak played, then Jive on Rye and Joel Morelli, and everything was running smooth, people actually started to show up. Then the PortElgin band Spastik came. They nearly took out 10 people with there truck when they came into the feild. I don't care too much if the where stoned, but ,Holly Shit, they were pretty damn irresposible to threaton other people's lives. They played pretty well on stage but thier attitiude sucked shit. We had to ask them to cut short (see below) and they started dissing us. We put the whole event on spent all our time on it and they where dissing us, when it wasn't even our fault. Cops had shown up and that's why we had to cut it short because they where trying to charge us for a bunch of stuff. In the end Kurmugeon only played like 10 minutes, and the same with Hinje thanks to the cops. (Spastik played for an hour) Thanks to everyone except Spastik - YOU SUCK. Oh yeah and to everyone who didn't pay. We just wanted to break even , but we had 1000 + in expenses and we didn't so you all suck too. Thanks to everyone who supported us, especially Phil's dad for letting us use his farm. and to Chris's dad to for helping us set up (BUT WE AREN'T 12 YEARS OLD GARY) We might do it next year.

It looks like we'll be doing shows with Joel Morelli, Jive on Rye and Hinje through out the next month com see Them!!!
