Well, there wasn't much to
the concert that I could babble on and on about, but I'll give you the
jist of my evening :)
We arrived
in St. Louis around 5:45 and got to Riverport a few minutes later.
As soon as we parked, we went up to the gate and got inside because gates
opened at 6 PM. I was supposed to meet Gina and Cathy there, but I didn't
see either, so I had to go in and get the best lawn seats possible. I planned
on going back out to look for them, but 1) my sister wouldn't let me--there
were some WIERD people there, and 2) it was a long walk back to the Box
Office and it was hotter than hell...Anyway, I felt really bad for a while
that I didn't meet up with them, but we're all meeting up for the State
Fair, so that'll be our chance to get together.
We sat
and did some people watching until the show started. Fastball was pretty
great. I only knew three of their songs, and the rest of them seemed pretty
short, but other than that, I enjoyed them, and they got me warmed up.
I don't remember too much of what they said in between songs except that
even though things were just getting started, they were going to get us
fired up.
After
them was of course, Sugar Ray. Mark McGrath sang a couple songs and then
said that Fastball did awesome. Then they thanked the Goos for letting
them tour together and told everyone to "give it up for the Goo Goo Dolls!"
I only knew three Sugar Ray song's too, and I was actually a little surprised
to hear some of the heavy stuff they do, but I liked it. Mark McGrath
called a little girl up on
stage to sing "Fly" with him, and she was so adorable! She was carrying
a sign, but I don't know what it said (remember, I was sitting in the lawn
section...hehe). The band had their own bar and bartender, I thought that
was hilarious.
It was
finally time for the Goos!! We waited while they set the stage ready for
the performance and watched the FOX2 previews on the movie screen. I
was happy to see a small clip of the X-Files!! Combining my two favorite
things--Goos and X-Files! Yeah...anywayz, of course the band blasted out
in "Dizzy" and then went into "Long Way Down". After "Slide," (I think),
John was saying how great Sugar Ray did, and he was like, "I wrote one
of their songs. Know what song that is? 'Fly'! Yeah, I wrote that!" Everyone
got a kick out of that, especially me, because that's a HUGE inside joke
with me and my boyfriend. He always says stuff about movies and songs like,
"I wrote that," so I thought that was quite a coincidence :) I sang along
to EVERY song, and I had the best time! After they sang "Iris," they showed
the movie. I thought the whole Greed topic was pretty clever, and the video
was really great. It had that funny info-mercial thing to it. This is when
a majority of the people around me left the concert either to avoid traffic
or because they thought it was over. But my sister was really great and
let me stay to hear the rest of the songs. We got up and started heading
out in the middle of "Two Days in February" but I still heard the rest
of it on the way out.
Since
I don't remember the correct "order of events" I decided to save the jokes
that John made for last. I already mentioned the "I wrote that" joke,
I loved that.
And when John started playing "Name," he said, "I got more
shit for this song than Marilyn Manson got for his breast implants! If
a guy's gonna have that kinda thing done, he might as well go all out!"
I'm even more excited about the State Fair because I have row 9 seats,
and I plan on edging my way A LOT closer to the stage throughout the show.
Plus, we're going probably 4 hours early to try and meet the guys. I'll
finally get to meet up with Cathy and Gina :) That's in two weeks!!!!
