In The Beginning:
Being desperate to become a singer/song writer, Kevin decided to head to Florida and left the very next day, knowing that Florida is becoming 'The Next Hollywood'. He immediately got a job at Disney as a tour guide since the auditions for the Disney parts were suppose to be a few months later.

Then he heard about 'the three guys who harmonize together all the time' from a young woman he met at a club, and decided to arrange an introduction.

The night he met Howie, A.J. and Nick, he was impressed by their a cappella harmonies and their dance floor maneuvers. And they all thought, "Why not team up?" But they were missing one member to fill out the sound. The next morning, Kevin called Brian, his cousin (who was still in Lexington), and had him called out of class. He told Brian about the three guys he met the night before. Brian hopped on a plane and headed for Florida the next day, moved in with Kevin, and helped the guys to name themselves after Orlando's landmark fleamarket, Backstreet Market.

Later, a music producer (a mutual friend of theirs) introduced the Boys to their manager Johnny and Donna Wright. The boys knew that they had found the right people to start their career.

The Wrights didn't think the Boys needed much rehearsal time, and got them on the road immediately and invited Artist and Repertoire (A & R) executives to see the Boys in action. When a certain record company dawdled, Donna called them by cellular phone during a performance and left the entire powerhouse concert on their answering machine. That got the attention of A & R veteran, Dave McPherson, who immediately became a B.S.B. fan. In early 1994, Jive Records' (their record company) Jeff Tenster attended a Backstreet Boys show and was extremely impressed. A few days later, the Boys---and Dave McPherson---signed a contract with Jive.
