Geri goes solo!

Many fascinating Spice Girl events have happened in the 3 1/2 years they have been around. The Spice Girl dolls, the #1 single Wannabe. Then Ginger Spice left. What happened between the girls and Geri is one of the unanswerable questions in this world. Some say it was because of Ginger Spice's and Scary Spice's leadership spotlight problems. Other's say that she just couldn't handle all the fame coming at her. Ginger Spice says, it was because of differences. What's with all that? No one knows. Fans were disappointed all over the world to hear about Ginger Spice placing her spice on the rack for the last time. But, Geri is happy. She has been with charity, she has changed from platforms and short and tight dresses to formal pant suits and dress shoes that make her the original height. Scary, Posh, Baby, and Sporty are behind Geri 100% in her decision to leave them, yet, they are still sad.
The NEW Geri Geri Named 1 of 25 Most Intriguing PEOPLE!

Wearing a tasteful black power suit, her hair in a chignon worthy of Miss Marple, the not-quite-so-redhead stood behind the podium at September's MTV Video Music Awards. "Some of you probably don't recognize me," said presenter Geri Halliwell. "I used to dress like a drag queen."

That's because until May 31, Halliwell, 26, was Ginger Spice, one-fifth of the phenomenon known as the Spice Girls, purveyors of Girl Power! and 40 million albums. The platform boots and teeny Union Jack mini went with the turf. Halliwell's departure from the girl group two weeks before the North American leg of their sold-out Spiceworld tour apparently stunned even her bandmates. More surprising still is the route the former aerobics instructor and topless model has taken since: Spice Girl to Nice Girl.

In her farewell press release, Halliwell blamed "differences between us" (rumored to be ongoing clashes with Mel B, aka Scary Spice) and declared, "I'll be back." Weeks later she was, after spending some of her estimated $25 million fortune on a veddy proper wardrobe. (Her Spice Girl gear, auctioned in London for charity, brought $246,000.) The matching good works began pronto. Having had a benign tumor removed at 18, Halliwell threw herself into raising breast-cancer awareness, speaking at a women's prison and a girls' school in September. In October she met with Secretary General Kofi Annan after signing on as a United Nations goodwill ambassador to promote population control and reproductive health care in underdeveloped countries. "I will be traveling a lot," she promised on Larry King Live.

The SpiceWorld Poster But Halliwell, who's single, will have to stay home in suburban London long enough to make the record due next year as part of a reported $3.2 million solo contract she signed with EMI Records. While she has never been known for her voice, her first post-Spice gig was a whopper: At the London gala celebrating Prince Charles's 50th birthday, she did a takeoff on Marilyn Monroe's famous "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" performance for John F. Kennedy. Perhaps it's part of the greatest career move of all, says Smash Hits deputy editor Alex Needham. "The outrageous, platform- booted, Union Jack-dressed, trashy glamor queen has turned into the Duchess of Kent."

Baby Spice To Star In New Musical Version Of "Sleeping Beauty"

Baby SpiceWith the Spice Girls looking to release its new single, "Goodbye," to stores in early December, Baby Spice has just been tapped for the lead role in a new musical production of "The Sleeping Beauty."

Emma B. has just inked a deal to star in the BBC program, which should begin principle shooting in March or April of next year, according to "The Hollywood Reporter."

As we previously reported Baby Spice was on-hand with Sporty Spice to receive the Spice Girls' two awards for Best Group and Best Pop at the MTV Europe Music Awards held last week in Milan, Italy.

Geri Halliwell Signs Solo Deal, Set To Become UN Ambassador Former Spice Girl Geri Geri Halliwell is said to be launching a solo recording career by signing to Chrysalis Records.

The "London Sun" reports that the former Spice Girl has inked a three-album deal with the label worth roughly $3 million. Halliwell, who left the Spice Girls late last May, has previously been said to be hosting television shows and acting on stage and in TV movies.

The paper says that her contract with Virgin prevented her from releasing any new material for three months, but she's now free and clear and set to announce the new deal next week. They add that Halliwell picked Chrysalis because she liked the way the label handled former Take That singer Robbie Williams. Take That were a wildly popular band in England before Williams left, and he's since enjoyed a very successful solo career.

Halliwell has appeared at just two major functions since the split -- once at the MTV Music Video Awards and once at a charity auction. She's also set to host the MTV Europe awards.

Additionally, the former Ginger Spice has been making community appearances for charity. Last week Halliwell was in Uganda filming a segment for Comic Relief, a British charity program.

Most recently, the "London Times" reports that Halliwell is set to become a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations and will soon be meeting with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in New York to discuss that position.

Twice the Spice!

POSH SPICEYes, it's true! Victoria Caroline Adams soon to be Beckham is having a real "Baby Spice". Posh Spice is reportedly due next month (February 1999). In an interview on their "Live At Wembley Stadium" video, Victoria quoted, "I really don't know yet if it's a boy or a girl. I really don't care if it is a boy or girl. Just as long as it's healthy and strong. I think that is what every mother thinks." Victoria has also said she will not be leaving the band despite rumors that are floating around. She has said, "I will take time off, obviously, but I have no plans on quitting the band. I really mean that."
There is also another expecting Spice Girl. Melanie Gulzar (Whom married Jimmy Gulzar in September) is expecting a little one. She is basically concerned as much as Victoria of her baby's health. That's all that matters to her. She is due in March. She hopes to be a very dedicated mother and plans, also, to take time off after the birth of her baby.
