1997-98 was another disappointing
season for Liverpool's enigmatic goalkeeper, only this time, having started
the first 27 Premiership games, he made way for Brad Friedel at the end
of February. On his day a superb 'keeper, who is extremely agile for a
big man and a great shot-stopper with good positional sense, and one who
commands his area with great presence, on other days he appears indecisive
and goals are conceded.
Having pledged himself to the Reds, the purchase of Friedel may be just
the spur that he needs to find top form and win back his place between
the sticks.
