Biographies
Anthony George Banks
Born: March 27th, 1950
Tony Banks started his career with Genesis in 1967 as the pianist/keyboardist, after the emergence of the
Charterhouse School Bands The Garden Wall, which Tony was a member, and The Anon. Tony, who
plays with a Bach style, also tends to introduce many excellent sound effects and reinforcing chords to
the band's music. On occasion, Tony has also been known to pick up the guitar. Apart from Genesis,
Tony has persued a solo career resulting in 8 albums: A Curoius Feeling, The Wicked Lady Soundtrack,
The Fugitive, Quicksilver Soundtrack, Soundtracks, Bankststement, Still and Strictly Inc. Tony Banks
is one of the two original founding members Genesis still in the group. Currently Tony has finished
up promoting the new Genesis album Calling All Stations and is planning on doing some sort of solo
project.
Mick Barnard
Born: Unknown
Mick Barnard played the guitar in Genesis for about six months as Anthony Phillips' temporary
replacement and was quickly relieved by Steve Hackett.
Bill Bruford
Born: May 1950
Bill Bruford was seen in Genesis as the drummer for the 1976 tour.
Phillip David Charles Collins
Born: January 31st, 1951
Phil Collins origionally started his career with Genesis in 1971 as their drummer/percussionist and
occasionally a vocalist. When Peter Gabriel left the band in 1975, Phil took on a double role as lead
vocalist and drummer for the studio side of Genesis. During this time, Genesis recorded many hit songs
such as: Squonk, Your Own Special Way, Follow You, Follow Me, Misunderstanding, Abacab, Mama,
That's All, Invisible Touch, Land Of Confusion, In Too Deep, No Son Of Mine and Hold On My Heart.
Apart from Genesis, Phil has also persued a very successful solo career resulting in 8 albums:
Face Value - Hello,I Must Be Going - No Jacket Required - ...But Seroiusly - Serious Hits Live -
Both Sides - Dance Into The Light - ...Hits. In March 1996, Phil Collins announced his departure from
Genesis so he could persue other interests. Today Phil is heavily involved with his Big Band and writing
music for the upcoming Disney movie Tarzan.
Nick D'Virgilio
Born: November 12th, 1968
Nick D'Virgilio started his career in Genesis in 1996 as the sesion drummer for the Calling All Stations
album. Nick originally played on the all the tracks, but only really ended up playing on the final
cuts of Alien Afternoon (first half), If That's What You Need, Uncertain Weather and Small Talk.
The rest of the drumming was left to the other session drummer Nir Z. There is a chance that we might
see Nick play on future Genesis albums.
Anthony Drennan
Born: November 1956
Anthony Drennan took over as the guitarist/bassist for the Calling All Stations tour, as Daryl Stuermer's
replacement.
Peter Brian Gabriel
Born: February 13th, 1950
Peter Gabriel started his career with Genesis in 1967 as the lead vocalist, after the emergence of the
Charterhouse School Bands The Garden Wall, which Peter was a member, and The Anon. Peter has
a knack for communicating with a crowd. While in Genesis, Gabriel was famous for acting out songs
by wearing elaborate costumes and telling stories about the songs. In 1975 Peter Gabriel left Genesis
to experience the different avenues music had to offer. Since Genesis, Gabriel has had a very successful
solo career. Gabriel has released many albums such as, Peter Gabriel I, Peter Gabriel II, Peter
Gabriel III, Peter Gabriel Plays Live, So, Soundtrack to Passion, Shaking The Tree, Us and
Secret World Live. Recently Peter has re-sung some of the vocals that were for the Genesis Archive -
Volume One: 1967-1975 box set and is now recording a new album.
Steve Richard Hackett
Born: February 12th, 1950
Steve Hackett started his career with Genesis in 1971 as their lead guitarist. Hackett bought a new
progressive sound to the band wich gave the music a different edge. In 1976 Steve left the group
because he felt that the direction he wanted to go in music would not fit with Genesis. Today Steve
is persuing a successful solo career and recenty released a Genesis Revisited Album. He has also
collaborated with Peter Gabriel and re-record guitar parts that appeared on the Genesis Archive -
Volume One: 1967-1975.
John Mayhew
Born: Unknown
John Mayhew was the session drummer for Genesis on the Trespass album, then later replaced by
Phil Collins.
Anthony Phillips
Born: December 23rd, 1951
Anthony Phillips started his career with Genesis in 1967 as their lead guitarist after the emergence
of the Charterhouse School Bands The Anon, which Anthony was a member, and The Garden
Wall. Anthony appeared on the first two albums, From Genesis To Revelation and Trespass. After
the Trespass album had been completed Phillips decided to leave the band out of his frustration and
disallusionment with the music business.
Michael John Cloete Crawford Rutherford
Born: October 2nd, 1950
Mike Rutherford started his career with Genesis in 1967 as their bassist/rhythm guitarist after the
emergence of the Charterhouse School Bands The Anon, which Mike was a member, and The Garden
Wall. Mike is the only other original member of Genesis, other than Tony. Apart from Genesis, Mike
has been very successful in his solo attempts. He has recorded Small Creep's Day, Acting Very Strange,
Mike And The Mechanics, Living Years, Word Of Mouth, Best Of Mike And The Mechanics and
Beggar On A Beach Of Gold. Currently Mike has finished up the promoting the new Genesis album
Calling All Stations and is planning to record another solo album.
Chris Stewart
Born: Unknown
Chris Stewart was the origional drummer for Genesis in 1967 when The Garden Wall, which Chris was
a member, and The Anon combined. Stewart recorded the first two singles, The Silent Sun and
A Winters Tale, with the band. Chris Stewart later left Genesis.
John Silver
Born: Unknown
John Silver replaced Chris Stewart in 1968 and the new drummer for Genesis. John had the fortunate
pleasure of dumming on the first Genesis album From Genesis To Revelation. After the album had been
completed John left the band.
Daryl Mark Stuermer
Born: November 27th, 1952
Daryl Sturmer took over and the bassist/guitarist for the live side of Genesis in 1978, after Hackett left.
Stuermer proved to be a great guitaist bringing a new modern sound into Genesis. Along with Genesis
Daryl has toured and appeared on Phil's solo material. The We Can't Dance Tour in 1992 was Daryl's
last tour with Genesis. He still continues to be involved the music of Phil Collins.
Chester Cortez Thompson
Born: December 11th, 1948
The heavily Jazz influenced drummer Chester Thompson takes over the throne for the live side of
Genesis in 1977. Chester Thompson was a very solid and vercified drummer perfect for Genesis.
Chester Thompson also appeared on many tours with Phil Collins. Unfortunately in 1992 Chester
left both Genesis and Phil Collins to persue other interests. Today Chester has appeared on many
different artists albums and has also collaberated with Genesis ex-member Steve Hackett on the Genesis
Revisited album and tour.
Ray Wilson
Born: September 8th, 1968
Ray Wilson started his career with Genesis in 1996 as their new vocalist. His voice has a darker bluesy tone which blends
excellently with the Genesis sound. His voice on the older material sounds as if Peter Gabriel is actually
singing. Ray Wilson is currently no longer the lead singer for Genesis.
Nir Zidkyahu
Born: November 1967
Nir Z started his career with Genesis in 1996 as the replacement drummer for Phil Collins. Nir started
out as just the second session drummer for Calling All Stations and now finds himself as the new tour
drummer as well. While with Genesis, Nir has definatly proven that he can fill the shoes of thoes
before him. His style is sightly different than Collins which adds a little different flavour to the music.
Nir Z is currently no longer the drummer for Genesis.
