I first saw ROCK CITY ANGELS when I was 17. I'd seen a lot of bands before because my dad worked for Budweiser and they did a lot of promotions that involved music. Usually the shows my dad was involved in were at arenas. Because of this, I often was able to get free tickets and sometimes even back-stage passes.
The ROCK CITY ANGELS were the opposite of the bands I was used to seeing at arenas. The first time I saw them play was at an after hours club. They looked pretty rough, for starters. And, even though they came on stage wearing lipstick and eyeliner, they did not look like fags. In fact, they looked like they'd been in more than a couple fights and could probably handle themselves pretty well!
The music was basically pop-rock with a hard edge. Some people might campare them with the SEX PISTOLS or ROLLING STONES. The songs were very simple, but, they stuck in your head!
ROCK CITY ANGELS started to get really big right after GUNS N' ROSE signed with GEFFEN. ROCK CITY ANGELS were already signed to a small record company and a couple of the local radio stations were already playing the ROCK CITY ANGELS. Then, mysteriously, they stopped playing the album. I called the record shops looking for the album and was told that it would not be coming out and that ROCK CITY ANGELS had been signed to GEFFEN.
In my opinion ROCK CITY ANGELS were not signed, they were "shelved." There are a lot of mysterys connected with this band and a lot of questions that rock fans have about what happened to the band. Also, it is an unknown fact that JOHNNY DEPP was a member of the band for many years. However, it is a mystery why he mentions another band in his interviews.
