Here are some of my most cherished poems. Most of them are musically inspired. I hope you understand my meanings and get something personal from them too!
Enjoy!
NESMITH
Young
Innocent
The child sees
As the sun rises in the East
The sky is gray
But Peace and Love
Fill the air as
Youth taunts the sun
All around the kings that fall
Grow the flowers of death
That show their new faces
First to the sun
All the faded dreams are
Again suffocated by the morning
As the music is heard
But never understood
And the people stare at the sun
This poem has great significance for me because it was the first I had written in about a year and the first one that felt right. I was inspired and influenced by the king of free verse, Michael Nesmith. His work is so expressive and meaningful. So to thank him for getting me back into writing, I named it after him. It's probably my favorite.
THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE
It stirs the soul of one
It comes from the deep
Wall of the supernatural
And leads the mind into
The world of subconsciousness
The journey begins with the
Beatings ringing wonderously
Through the entire reaches of the mind
Then the strings begin their harmony
And the dance is ended with the
Important final feelings
These miraculous passions are
Finally revealed to all as
They blind the souls of many
And each person hears the
Only sound that is felt.
PURPOSE
Magic Love Beads that
Hang from the door
Send tranquil vibes
Through the stale air that
Is filled with the smell
Of incense and smoke
Figures in the mist
Sway to the sound
Of guitars and harpsicords
The music carries us
Out of this place
We float out of our being
And meet our soul
For just a little while
We feel real
PIT OF TORMENT
Approaching subconciousness
The pit of torment
I lie awake
Dreading twilight
And fearing rest
Insomnia tapping on my eyelids
I sense the blaze of demons
Rushing into my mind
As their evil rapture escapes
Through my closed eyes
The portal between their world
And ours
The grotesque disfigurements
Dance unrestrained for a moment
And then return to eternal
Confinement
TWO DAYS
It rose all around me
Illness or depressive boredom
I sat and saw the same
Rock and earth
Never changing
From the angle
Everytime
My only joy
With the rain
Coming and going
It dripped from the roof
One, two. Two, three, four
The only thing
That didn't repeat itself
The silence, stubborn
The plainess, uniform
The only cure
A different scene
A place with life
And loving arms
Hope for that
Keeps me here
CREATION PLUS HORNS AND STRINGS
Dawn
The tide flows
Peace and Tranquility
The animals walk together
Tired
Hungry and Full
The animals now beasts
Hostile
Battle
Echos
Spoils
Desolate
Emptiness
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
The following poem is untitled because it was an assignment for my Creative Writing class. We had to write a holiday-related poem or story. I used a hippie theme and put song titles and references to other classic music things in it.
IMAGINE for a day all the people
Living in harmony and saying
GIVE PEACE A CHANCE
For a few days forget
THE BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER and
Don't dare disturb THE SOUND OF SILENCE
FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH let the
COMMOTION go BLOWIN' IN THE WIND
LONG AS I CAN SEE THE LIGHT
WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE
It's going to be a long, cold winter
So get The Lovin' Spoonful at
HOTEL CALIFORNIA and BE SURE TO
WEAR SOME FLOWERS in your hair and
COME TOGETHER when ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE
Don't forget the feeling when it's
SUMMER IN THE CITY and the season
Has done its TURN! TURN! TURN!
And we've LOST THAT LOVING FEELING
Help us all remember the real
Reason we live and find someone
Who has forgotten and give them the
warmth that is known to BLOW AWAY
Let this year's resolution be to
Keep the spirit with you
And never lose it.
Whether you spend your Christmas
With an ELEANOR RIGBY in a
STRAWBERRY FIELD or BOBBY McGEE
Thumbing a diesel down
Just remember to have a
Very Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM YOUR FRIENDS
26
All boats
Cruise down
Eternal flows
Gaining height
Including joy
Keeping love
Memories near
Opening portals
Quantly reaching
Soulful taunts
Usually vengeful
Worthwhile xebee
Yachting zealously
MISSING YOU?
Who do you talk to
When you're all by yourself
And your conscience has
Had to much to drink
Seeing you laugh
At nothing
Because it's
There
Walking under ladders
In a feild of four leaf clovers
Hearing you
Smile
MURDER
Small and fragile
Breathing air and
Smelling freshness
Bouncing in the sun
Hot and burning
Breathing smoke and
Smelling flames
Lunging in speed
They meet with impact
The small left to die
More come to finish the deed
Not another thought
