On Friday night, Brittney couldn't contain herself. Going back to NY was going to be a blast, even if it was only for a couple of days. She had most of her things already packed and was waiting for the next morning departure.
"Yes Rob, ok fine, I'll bring my Jewel CD. But didn't you get it for Christmas? Oh, I thought you did. Man, I can't wait to come home, were going to have so much fun!" Brittney was talking to Robin, and by now she was wrapeed up in the phone cord from running around her room, finishing up her packing. "Oh, I'll bring you a picture of my gang around here. They're pretty incrediable people.... but just a little screwed up." Brittney alughed. "It's too bad you couldn't meet them because I think you'd really like them. Hopefully you can come down this summer, we'd have such a blast, just like before! Rob, have you been talking with Erin lately?"
"You've got to be kidding me Britt, she's such s snot!"
"Well, she was really nice to me last year. I kind of forgave her for the little Andrew incident."
"Oh sure you did, but you weren't even the one who liked him. I mean, we used to be such good friends, and she knew I liked him, and yet, she went and asked him out!"
"Well, it's not like they went out for a long time Robin, it was over in a week!"
"But still, she's a back stabber and a snot and she never deserved him in the first place!"
"Well I don't care. It happened almost a year ago and I'm just glad to be coming home!"
The door bell rang and startled Brittney, and knowing that she was the only one home, she let Robin go. She was walking down the stairs when it rang for a second time. "I'm coming!" Brittney yelled frusterated. She opened the door to see Josh standing there.
"Brittney, you can't leave!"
Brittney was so shocked she slamed the door in his face. She just stood there staring at the door.
"Brittney, open the door, come on, open it up.... OK fine, I'm coming in then." Josh walked in, which made Brittney finally move.
"I can't let you go to NY!" he started the conversation that should have been a month ago.
"It's not a matter of letting me, cause I'm going!"
"Ok, well your right, but I can't let you go without talking to you first."
"Fine, go ahead, say whatever you are going to say and get out." Brittney stated sitting on the couch.
"Listen I feel terrible about that night at the movies, you just don't understand. But the thing is I like you and I can't help that, and I know you felt something for me that night because it was written all over your face! And I bet you any money that if Taylor didn't excist, that you would have kissed me that night."
"Oh, so that's what this is, about Tay. Well listen, he does excist and it just so happens that I care about him very much, and if it wan't for him I wouldn't have even met you when i did. He was the one who said you were a great person., the man of the whole freaken school, Mr. Popularity, well it's too bad... because Tay never did find out what happened that night before he left... and it's a good thing too because he would have been crushed to know that his best friend tried to get his girl!"
"You know what? Tay's not around, Tay's in NY, with a bunch of screaming girls after him, how do you know he dosen't try anything with them, huh?"
"Oh come on Josh! Tay's a good guy and you know it, I can't belive you would say this about your best friend!"
"Face reality Brittney, you seen Oprah Monday. He dosen't want anyone to know that you even exsist. So long as he's on that stage, he dosen't care about anyone except for all his screaming fans! We could have had something, somwthing great... there's only one thing standing in our way." He pulled Brittney to him and kissed her. Brittney pushed him away.
"Who exactly do you think you are? You just hate it when you can't have something you want, don't you?"
He pulled her to him again, kissing her harder. Brittney stuggled to get free but he had her clasped at both arms. She sook her haed free.
"Stop it!!" Your hurting me!" But Josh wouldn't stop, and before Brittney knew it she was on the floor.
"Josh, stop, stop it!" she screamed. But everythime she would try to break free, he would hit her, hard. She was sore and tired from struggling, but she knew she had to do something. All of a sudden she kicked him where she knew it would hurt and ran when he crunched up in pain on the floor.
She fled to the stairs, up into her bedroom and locked the door, then into her bathroom and locked that door too. She sat on the floor as she could hear Josh screaming ather bedroom door.
"Brittney I'm soory! Britteny, open the door!"
But Brittney just sat scared on the floor as tears flowed down her cheeks like rain. Almost a half an hour later she heard the front door slam. The house was quiet once again except for a shaking Brittney still locked in the bathroom.
