Turntablism doesn't get much respect or attention nowadays, but DJing is the foundation of Hip Hop. MCs didn't even exist at first—it was just a DJ with two turntables and a volume control to lower and raise the levels. If it wasn't for Kool Herc, Hip Hop wouldn't be here. And if not for Grandmaster Flash, what we now know as Hip Hop—looped beats—might not exist.
