Q: Why only 444 copies ?
A: This is a "just for fun release", Detlef and Mario thought
that they can only sell a few CDs
since it is very different from
their other stuff.
But only a few copies are left - be quick if you want to have a copy.
After reading the review in the last smd (synth music direct) issue
I decided not to buy it since
I expected it to be to boring.
EXPECTED !
But like politicians I don´t care about what I´ve said
in the past !
After hearing some extracts I bought it and, yes I LOVE IT.
All material (expect track 6) is very different to their "Loops&Beats"
.
The Tracks 1&3 are taken from the live performance at radio FRITZ
in Potsdam.
1 Under the blue moon part one
Like all Keller/Schoenwaelder live sets this is improvised stuff.
Both the musicians and the audience don´t know what will happen
during the set.
They are using spare sequencer loops and dense layered chords.
Whale sounds appear, some single synths solo notes are dropping in
building fragments of a melody.
The sequencer loop has a slightly delayed echo on the right channel
- like Klaus Schulzes ca. 1975 loops.
The choir chords sound similiar to the best "X" parts, but this is
nor a KS rip-off neither second hand Berlin school EM.
It fits perfectly to those sentimental moments, we all enjoy sometimes.
3 Under the blue moon part three
A slow piano solo overlays the spare sequencer loops and the choir/string
chords.
After 4 minutes the chords are remaining and the piano solo appears
again.
It was an exercise for the guys as you can hear after 5 minutes when
one of them starts a new
sequencerloop for 30 seconds or so which doesn´t fit to the piano
play. After those few seconds
he plays some flute melodies instead of it.
The sequencer loops seem to be unprepared too.
Both parts are very excellent, though they sound a little bit raw sometimes.
But this is a live improvisation without any overdub - nothing was
added.
Could you imagine how TD will sound without their prepared MIDI stuff
?
Not as beautful and stimulating like Keller/Schönwälder I´d
guess.
While TD are working as DJ´s playing few chords to control their
computers this is what live EM should be.
Raw, unprepared and incalculable :-)
Watch out for their internet concert, lads&gents, we´ll hear new stuff, I bet !
Track 2,4,5 are recorded during a concert at the Markus-Church in Gladbeck/Germany.
It was very cold that day in the church (on 11th January) and Detlef
and Mario were sitting on the ground
infront of there equipment.
2 Ein mystisches Ende (a mystical end)
It starts with great overlayered choir/string chords with some experimental
sounds and slow melodies.
This is a very slow piece without rhythms and sequencers creating a
very special atmosphere.
Just how Keller/Schoenwaelder feel while playing in that church.
After 5:20 an improvised organ solo work begins with varied tempo and
the choir/string chord structure appears again.
Brilliant. Point.
4 Zugabe mit Orgel... (encore with organ...)
Improvised Electronic church music.
When they started the tune the audience looked to the church organ
getting confused because the pipes don´t
sound and noone plays that huge organ ;-)
I never heard stuff like that before though I know many EM artists.
This is how J.S Bachs church music maybe would sound if he could use synths instead of an organ.
6 Far from India part two
(Bonus-) Track 6 was recorded during a studio session for Loops&Beats
in Duisburg.
Though the whole session was about 48 minutes they used only 7:29 minutes
of it as "Far from India" on the Loops&Beats 2CD set.
Since the fans like to hear more from this session this 13:35 minutes
part was added as bonus-track.
This is the best "bonus" track I ever heard !
Indian tabla drums, a pumping quick rhythm (of "Ambient House"-style).
Great solo synth work, some background noises and effects... This kicks
ass ! Go for it!
But watch out, this is not easy listening EM. Note: There are definitly
only 444 copies !
