Overview

This is taken from a live performance in Duisburg, Ruhr Area, Germany, 1997, with the following line-up:

Klaus Schulze:
Keyboards, Drum machines and Sequencers

Jörg Schaaf:
Keyboards, Rave-o-lution & sequencers (Duisburg live part two)

Roelof Ooostwoud
Vocals (track 2,9)

Surprisingly it´s a single CD set, the beginning of the concert isn't included.

To sum it up:
One of his best releases of the 90s. Only "In Blue" and "Tradition & Vision" are slightly better, IMO.
A new jewel in my collection.

Track by track review

Duisburg live part one:

01 L´age c´ore [11:50]

After a quickly fade in of 2 seconds the 1st sequence can be heard.
I expected some minutes of what those who dislike Klaus Schulze call "noodling", but
surprisingly the sequencing starts without delay. :-) It´s very similar to the one used on
the "´nuff said" track of the Jubilee Edition.

Nice, peaceful atmosphere with a classical music influenced main sequencer line overlayered with a typical
Schulzean Mini moog solo.

02 Requiem fürs Revier [15:01]

This track contains English and old Latin vocals by tenor Oostwoud. The track translates to
"Requiem for the Ruhr area" (Ruhrgebiet aka "Pott" or "Revier"), an industrial region next to the Dutch,
Belgian and French border. Duisburg, where the concert took place is one of the big cities in the Ruhr area.

The vocals are similar to those to used in his opera "Totentag". A slow, melancholy atmosphere,
with synth string choir chords and some synth solo melodies.

03 Groove ´n´ Bass [6:16]

The drum machine turns in added by some vocal samples and strange wave effects.
A driving rhythm meets a Schulzean improvised sequence.

At the 4 minutes mark the bass drum turns in. Groovy :-)
The rhythm is varied and sounds very human. I like that human touch. :-)

04 Get Sequenced [3:28]

This nice sequence seems to be improvised while the rhythm work develops.

05 The Power of the Moog [4:47]

Strange noise effects are added while another sequence quickly turns in.

06 Up, up and away [8:21]

The speed increases dramatically. It hits the 140 bpm mark while
Schulze starts one of his great Mini Moog solos.

After 5 minutes it sounds more like a wild guitar than a synth.

Duisburg live part two:

07 From Dawn till Dusk [4:01]

A smoothy beginning, Wahnfried 1887 atmosphere, it´s that kind of slow peaceful
space music, the Schulze fans love. Melancholy heaven.

"The analogue synth will become the stradivarius of the Electronic music"
and Klaus is still one of the masters, IMO.

08 The Art of Sequencing [18:21]

This is definitely the best track. Similar to the "Tradition and Vision" track which is
only included in Klaus´ 25 CD Jubilee Edition, sadly, since I never will buy a
25 CD set of any artist in my lifetime. BTW: I love ca. 25 CDs of the 105 ! single CD´s he
had released in the last 30 years and this is one of the best.

Brilliant track ! It´s a great experience to hear Klaus together with Jörg Schaaf. :-)

09 Prima Vera [7:25]

This is similar to track 02.
