**intro 67**
We're back. hehehe! Okay, so we got a super duper response from people who said they really liked our first issue. Now we walk around like stars waiting for people to ax for our autographs, but weÕve had no such luck. Just wait until we are writers for the new york times. Then they'll see.
Not much has happened since the first pollyanna. I have totally hooked it up with lots of neato musicians. I'm so into it. Jeff's driving skills are improving, but i don't think there's hope for 100% improvement. And whatever jeff--i had to walk him to his car at the team dresch show at the jabberjaw cuz he was afraid to go by himself. He is such a corndog sometimes.
Um...i'm wearing a strawberry shortcake hat right now and my dad is soooo not into it. I don't think he's going to ax me to borrow it. Jeff is ignoring me and reading something.
Isn't "hazy shade of winter" a good song?
Okay, time for a sad eleanor story. Redd Kross, Shonen Knife, The Wondermints, and Frosted are playing tonight, and the show is sold out. the end.Jeff finally paid attention to what i'm writing here and he pointed out that I didn't tell the whole truth about me walking him to his car. I really did go with him with the key clutched between my fingers ready to key some freakazoid in the eye (facts of life episode # ?) and as Jeff, nisha molly, and i approached the car 4 guys started walking toward us. i got scared and ran around the corner where Jody had been blabbing on the phone all night about moving to Egypt. I said i was scared of those guys and nisha said that jody was like "i'll protect you." isn't that good?
Jeff is watching tv with my mom. geez louise.
I sent a copy of pollyanna #1 to my great-grandmother (who was the cover model). She didn't even notice the picture of herself and she almost threw it out.
**team dresch show review**
J: ok so were going to share our time at the jabberjaw the night team dresch played. first of all eleanor and I were excited beyond belief to be able to see them play. for me, it was the first time i went to a show where i had waited in anticipation for weeks before the actual night. no one seemed to know when rizzo, the first band, was going to play. the jabberjaw show announcement tape didnÕt even have a time set. we ended up arriving at 8, after a long drive from thousand oaks. as it turned out, we were about an hour early, so we sat around and chatted. I even got to meet some of eleanor's friends from aol, and that was cool.
E: okay, so after i freaked out cuz the jabberjaw scared me and i knew i was going to get killed (which would have been alright only if i saw the team play first). we were driving and jamie was like, "look at all the frat houses." ummm...whatever. so, i was feeling a little out of my comfort zone when who do i see walking down the street, but marci and amanda. yippee. (skip to the show) i brought a tape recorder and the damn thing wouldn't work with certain tapes. i was having a nervous breakdown cuz i totally wanted to tape team dresch. there was this surprise band after rizzo and longstocking. they were cute boys but i couldn't wait for them to be over. i wanted to see team dresch sooooooooo bad. (skip back to the drive there) jeff is a total weinie and his driving still sucks my left one. we stopped at taco bell after jeff passed it cuz he said that he couldn't see the giant bell hanging in the middle of ventura blvd. there was a chewbacca in the window and it scared me. shite, this has nothing to do with the t.d. show. i'm so off-track as usual. (skip to the jabberjaw during the show) jody seemed a tad out of sorts, but i'm not saying why. love in all her fantab stories.
J: ok so after what seemed like 5 hours of waiting around rizzo finally started to play. i wasn't sure what to expect cus it was only a two member band (one on drums, and one on guitar like h2b). but when they finally started playing, i was really amazed. they were likable and adorable performers. i think that a lot of it has to do with their honesty about being nervous and all. they weren't pretentious about being rock stars and all :) anyway, they played about 6 songs and they were all very good. sara (above) had a really neat drumming style. she jumped up and down and pounded away at only a few drums. jen (on the left) had a good voice. i was very impressed when they did a duet without any instruments. to me that shows a lot of courage, and the two pulled it off very well. as i understand it they should becoming out with their first single around april, and i cant wait cus it should be neato.
E: i, too, was way into rizzo. sara was jumping like crazy. she was way criss cross. she even unplugged the cord that went from the guitar to the amp. i heart how they both said "whatever leather" so now i say it all the time. i'm such a ripper-offer. longstocking played after the pink ladies and the drummer (i suck with names) was so cute. i just watched her the whole time. oh, and jody who was looking my way from the other side of the stage. ooh la la. it was way neato cuz i talked to michelle (guitar, pic on next page) and my cute drummer girl at the troubadour just days after. dunno...maybe i should skip to jeff. i need to gather my thoughts.
J: well, after rizzo played i waited intently waiting for longstocking to begin. i don't know if it was because i was so anxious for the team to start or what but i never got into them that much. i mean they sounded good and all but i couldn't help wishing that they would hurry up their set. the same thing happened when the "surprise" band went next. they were called "the interpreters" and were from the east coast *i think*. it was an all boy band, and all the members had a an noel gallagher haircut which i wasnit into very much. about midnight the interpreters finished and i rushed outside to call home and tell my parents that i would be home a little later then my 12 pm curfew :) but guess who was on the pay phone. . . jody! it was pretty cool, even though i didn't recognize her at first.
E: didn't recognize her! he said, "who's that nerdcore boy over there on the phone?" okay, so i was just so jazzed to be there. it's hard to write about it now cuz it seems so surreal. i guess i'll skip to team dresch. i finally got a tape that would work and my recorder also decided to cooperate. jody was talking about how she broke marci's kick drum from standing on it. beep beep. it was funny. jody told lots and lots of stories. she started one out by saying that "it was time to move on". did jeff already mention that? it was like everyone in the club held their breath cuz we all thought that she meant that they were breaking up. oh my goddess! i was scared. (forward) i cried during "don't try suicide." i love that song so much. i kept thinking of melanie and how much i miss her. okay, enough of that. (rewind rewind) it was so hot in there and wendianne's girlie with the black hair and cute bangs kept elbowing me in the boob when she was dancing. it kinda hurt. she was totally dancing. i don't know how she could cuz it was so mofo hot that i was sweating just standing there. yuck. they needed some ac/dc.
J: it was pretty hot tamales there, especially since the little 30x20 area was jam packed. team dresch played for a long time. All and all they did about 12 songs, all of which jody normally sings. i think it would have been a bad decision for jody to try and sing songs originally preformed by kaia. most of the songs were from "personal best" and "captain my captain," although they did play a few songs that i have never heard. and of course these songs were amazing! Jody also sang a vegas beat song (amanda and marci's side band) that i liked a lot. jody did tell a lot of stories too. i was pretty into it when she asked if anyone wanted a monologue, and eleanor got on the mic and delivered a lesbian vampire joke. a lot of people in the audience seemed alittle jaded to true humor and just kinda moaned, but jody was all "that was really beautiful."
E: eleventh of all, jody didn't sing the vegas beat song. marci did. um...it's called like "yr eyes (or something)." i asked jody on the computer one day and she didn't know. i axed marci and amanda at the vegas beat show at the jabberjaw, but now i forgot. also, the same boy that just said that it's rad-arse that jody didn't sing the kaia songs shrieked, "play 'hand grenade'" so whatever leather (my new rizzo vocab). (fast forward) i talked to jody after the show and she was so nice. i jumped up on stage where she was sitting and i told her how beautiful they all were. she couldn't understand why. we had a really nice conversation that i'll never forget. um....i guess that's a good place to end. what do you think jaffar jeffrey?
J: well i feel as if i'm getting lynched here. ok so jody didn't sing the vegas beat song, but whatever. and seeing as hand grenade is my favorite team dresch song, it really wouldn't matter to me if they even just did it as an instrumental ;) while eleanor and jody were networking, i thanked donna after the show and complimented her on the excellent chainsaw webpage (www.chainsaw.com), which is a definite must see. (as a side note, be sure to check out jody's page at http://www.monsterbit.com/candyass) so anyway, donna was all "it felt like we were on stage for 5 hours." but i replied that they could have played all night and it would have been fine with me.
so that's an account of what we experienced at the team dresch show at the jabberjaw on the 1st of january 1997. the names have been changed to protect the innocent blah blah blah.
take me back to pollyanna!
