Sting
Sting. How do you sum up in one word - the man known by one name? Try Renaissance. As in Renaissance man. Sting is a singer, songwriter, musician, actor, activist, husband and father. And as you know, he's rather good at all of the above.

Sting, neé Gordon Sumner, burst into the spotlight fronting the Police in the late '70's. The band was classified as Punk, but the sound was something else...rich with skilled bass work by Sting. As the '80's came and went...the Police went from New to Number One to Never-more...
Sting then embarked on a successful solo career. His music combines various musical styles resulting in a sound that's distinctly Sting. When not working on his own projects, Sting lends his unique vocal stylings to the works of other artists, such as Dire Straits and Arcadia.
Sting's Sting's activism combines music with a good cause. From Band Aid to Live Aid to Amnesty International to the Rainforest Foundation, Sting puts his money where his mouth is performing to aid these charities.

Sting incorporates his interests and his family obligations. He and wife Trudy Styler started the Rainforest Project which is aimed at protecting millions of acres of rainforest in South America.

Sting told an interviewer, "I hear music all the time. Sometimes it drives me totally crazy. In absolute silence I hear music. I hear music; I hear rhythms; I hear bird song. I live in an aural world. Its never totally empty." *

Sting's musical ability is apparently in the genes. His father played harmonica and his son Jake is guitarist for a rock band.
