Ok, well, I know crap about Hockey, all I know is you shoot this little puck thingy around wit sticks, and try to get it in a net thingy. And occasionally a fight breaks out.(Occasionally??!!!?) Ok very often, hee hee, you pay to see two sports, ok enough of that!! Well, the Whalers lost!! BIG time! but who really cares? All that matters is that I had fun and learned that there are REALLY hill-billies out there!!! (*eerie music plays*)Oh! I'm gonna scan the ticket (yup! I still have it!) and get it up for everyone to see that we aren't making this stuff up!! *LOL*
It was March 25,1997, a Tuesday. And it was the Colorado Avalanche V. the Hartford Whalers, very cool.Well, while we were walking to the Civic Center, I started getting nervous about getting mugged or something like that.I know it sounds silly, but Hartford is famous for muggings. Well anyway, we walk into the Civic Center, and there's this guy with a camera and he's filming people.(which I found a little odd... but anyway) We start to walk to where our seats are, and there are concession stands EVERYWHERE!! Talk about merchandising!! Holy Billy Shears! So we find where our seats are,(nose bleed section) and we sit down. I was looking all over for my friend Noel the Avalanche freak, but we never found her. So it was about 10-15 minutes before the game and these people sit next to me. One of them is a major hill-billy!!!! At one point just before the game he looks at me and goes "Will ya watch my stuff?" and before I had a chance to answer the guy up and leaves!
Jen and her dad kept saying "Steal his money betsy!! Come on!" but I didn't, god knows what he had in THOSE pockets! Probably his little pet frog.. eww....
OK anyway! there was this teleprompter thingy where we were sitting and they were showing stats for different players on both teams. They show the stats for this one guy named Valleri! Jen and I both look at each other and go "Ha ha! His name's Vallerie!" who knows why it was funny! Ok, a few minutes before the game... they start showing the footage from about 20 minutes ago outside the ampitheater! And Jen's dad is just standing there, looking kinda out of it, not knowing he was on camera!!! We started cracking up!!! That hill-billy dude wasn't back yet either, I was getting tempted to see if he had any money, hee hee. It's like $8 for one hot dog! (that's exaggerating of course, it was really only $7.95, hee hee!)So we're sitting there ,and the hill-billy dude comes back, man all through the game he kept making weird noises.Well the game starts, Jen goes NUTS when Keith comes out, I start chanting "SANDERSON!!" hee hee!!
Man, I'm not a hockey freak, but Hockey games are FUN! It's constant action and just fun to watch even if you have NO CLUE what the hell is going on!Everytime Stu Grimson would come out everyone would chant "STU!!" It was awesome!!! They guy next to me chanted "STU!!" Constantly... I started getting scared after a while...eeewww
Well, it intermission (half-time, what ever the hell you call it) and Jen and I decided to go out to get something to eat. Then on the way back I had a pretzel and I think Jen had one too. So we started up to our seat (it was like we were walking to heaven or something, too many stupid stairs!) Well, we get there and a friend of mine is there looking for me! I was so flattered(hee hee). So I gave Tony part of my pretzel and we talked for a few then he went back to his seat on the OTHER SIDE OF THE ARENA! What a sweetie! Ok, second half... Whalers are STILL losing (surprise surprise). Well, the night pretty much went like that, the Whalers had 46 shots on goal, but they just couldn;t manage to get it IN the goal!! The Hill-billy next to me was annoying the heck out of me, I just wanted to tell him to go back to the farm he came from, and i dropped part of my pretzel. Other then that it was a KICKing game!! I LOVED it!!!! I only wish the Whalers hadn't left us, Pete Carmonos is an a**hole.
