Chapter 1

"Okay AJ, put the soda in the fridge, Kevin you get the cake, Brian you start… Brian? Where’s Brian?" Amanda asked irritated.

"Right here," Brian announced.

"Brian you hang the streamers," Amanda told him not even looking up.

"Yes sir," he answered mock saluting her. She glanced up and saw that he was shirtless and wearing streamers around his head.

"What are you doing?"

"I’m Rambo," he answered puffing out his chest.

Amanda rolled her eyes and sighed, "look Brian if you aren’t going to help get out of the way because we need to get stuff done."

"I’ll help. Jeez, no need to be cranky."

Brian grabbed the streamers and walked off grumbling. Amanda glared at his retreating figure, Brian grabbed the streamers and walked off grumbling. Amanda glared at his retreating figure, "why can’t he just grow up?" she asked herself.

"Amanda, when will Nick be home," Aaron asked her as he walked into the room.

"Sahar is keeping him out until 5 so we can get the party set up."

"Can I help?"

"Sure AC, why don’t you go help Howie with the balloons." Aaron nodded and ran off.

Today was Nick’s 19th birthday and Amanda was organizing the surprise party. Amanda and Sahar were best friends since the day they met. When Nick moved down to Florida he became the third musketeer. The three grew up together as best friends, although Nick seemed closer to Amanda. It was probably because Amanda was a tom-boy when she was small, Sahar was more of the delicate, feminine type. Eventually they grew up, and things changed. Like Amanda had predicted when they were young, Sahar and Nick started dating. At first it was just casual, friendly dating, it didn’t turn into a real boyfriend/ girlfriend relationship until last year. They spent most of their time together, but they didn’t leave Amanda out. She was still really close to both of them. She didn’t hold a grudge against Sahar, but she did hold one against Brian. Right around the time Nick turned 13, he joined up with Brian, AJ, Kevin, and Howie and formed the group The Backstreet Boys. It wasn’t long before Nick was gone in Europe and the girls barely saw him. When he came back both girls were ecstatic, that is until Amanda found out about Brian. While the guys were in Europe Nick and Brian bonded and Nick made Brian his new confidant. Now Nick went to Brian for help, not her. Amanda had hated Brian at first, but she gave him a chance for Nick’s sake. The more she got to know Brian, the more she had to agree he wasn’t that bad. She didn’t hate him, but she didn’t like him either. He was just kind of there. The one thing that really bothered her was his seemingly inability to act his age. Brian is 23 and Amanda is 20 and she thinks he is probably one of the most immature people in the world.

"Amanda?" Brian called breaking her out of her thoughts.

"Huh, yah Brian?"

"I kinda dropped the streamer," he told her bashfully.

"So?"

"In the sink."

"And?"

"It was full of water," he mumbled.

"Brian," she yelled, " how did you manage to do that?"

"I was juggling. Sorry"

"Brian what the hell? Why can’t you ever grow up? You’re 23 years old why don’t you act like it," she snapped.

"Look I said I was sorry, and I’m not immature. You’re just to damn serious, if you’d stop acting so above everyone else, you might have some fun once in awhile," he shot back.

Amanda glared at him, "you are such a jerk, I can’t believe you. You screw up Nick’s party and then yell at me. You have some nerve."

"Get off it Amanda, I’m not perfect I made a mistake, I apologized, so get off my case," he yelled back and stopped out of the room.

"Argg," Amanda shouted in frustration as she threw down her clipboard and stomped out on the opposite direction as Brian.
