Chapter Fourteen
Ring Ring. Sunny reached for the hall phone that night as she came out
of the living room.
'Hello Sunny speaking?'
'Hello Sandy, it's Amber here, I was talking to Minty and it seems
she know you, and we really don't have enough girls going to my little
party, so would you like to come?'
'I'd love to Amber, it's Sunny, I'll just ask my mum,' Sunny leaned
in the kitchen, 'Mum can I go to a party this Saturday? Minty's going to
be there, and the host knows the Hansons?'
'mmm,' Gail was flicking through a cookbook, 'you're a responsible
girl, I can trust you,'
'Thanx mum!' Sunny pu the phone back up to her ear, 'Amber? I can come,'
'That's cool, it starts at 8 and finishes at midnight K?'
'OK,' Sunny scribbled this down on the message pad, ' where is it?'
Amber gave her the address and they hung up.
'Sunny?' Bri was leaning against the door jam with a pleading look
on her face, 'Do you think I might be able to go to the party?' Sunny wrinkled
her nose while she thought,
'You aren't invited,' Sunny reached into her pockets for Minty's phone
number, 'but here's Minty's number, you can talk to her about it,'
'Thanks Sunny,' Bri hugged her sister, 'you're the best sister ever,'
Bri picked up the phone, 'besides Andrea that is. I can't wait till she
comes, I miss her so much,'
'No-one could miss her more than I do,' Sunny said to herself as she
walked up the stairs, 'not even mum,'
~
Sunny fell back on her bed, and was wondering what to do when something
hit her window. Clink. She sat up, what was it? Clink, Clink.
Sunny went over to the window and jumped to one side as a pebble came
flying through,
'Sunny?' she peered out through the window trying to see the source
of the voice and pebbles,
'Who is it?'
'Its us,' came another voice. She looked to the Hanson's house and
saw Taylor and Zac leaning out of their window. Zac had a handful of pebbles.
'Oh hi Taylor, hi Zac,' Sunny sat indian style on her window seat facing
out the window, 'what's up?'
'We're throwing something over so get ready to catch,' a baseball came
flying over with a thin cord attached to it, Sunny caught the cord, and
looked sceptically at it,
'And why did you throw this over?'
'Pull the cord to you,' obviously she wasn't going to get an answer
soon, so she pulled on the cord, a thicker rope came over, 'now loop that
over the ring above your window,' Sunny untied the thin cord from the rope,
looped the rope through the ring, and re-tied the cord to it. Now she knew
what she was doing. Gathering some slack, whistled then threw the baseball
back. Zac caught it just before it hit him on the head. Within another
5 minutes, the old message service the boys had had with their last neighbor,
was back in working order.
