He picked up
the paper, and read it over and over. Promises don't last forever, the
words ran through his mind. 'LEAH!? I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU LEAH!
COME BACK! WE CAN MAKE IT WORK! NO ONE WILL EVER-'
He stopped
suddenly, as he got an idea.
'Zac?'
'huh?'.
'You know,
when you asked me what my one wish in the whole world was last time when
we were here?'
'Yep.'
'Well,
I...my wish..is to die in your arms. Just like this.'
Zac remembered
that night on the beach. He wanted to give her her wish. He
was willing to give everything up for her. 'I...I love you Leah.'
He whispered, he kissed her cheek. It was cold, freezing. No life, no warmth,
no Leah. Zac reached over her on the floor and picked up the X-Acto
knife that she'd used to cut herself. He was scared. He hesistated. It's
going to hurt, he knew, but he had to give her her wish. He closed
his eyes. Put the knife to his wrist, and slammed it down into his flesh
as he cried out. He collapsed on the bed beside Leah. Her grabbed
her, with all of his courage, everything that was left, every last bit
of energy. He held her in his arms, just like at the beach. He kissed
her lips, her freezing cold lips. 'Leah, I love you.' He whispered.
Now
he was just waiting, waiting for it all to end. Waiting as he got sleepier
and sleepier. The loss of blood was draining his energy. He felt
tired, sick. But he still held Leah, never moved, held her in his
arms just like at the beach. As his final moments approached, a song
ran through his head, the song that had popped into his mind he first saw
Leah. The song that he remembered each time he looked at her beautiful
face, each time he heard her voice. It ran through his head, as the
room began to spin, and he began to dose off, for the last time, he sang
the words inside his head as he held Leah.
The words, all that he could remember, the words that popped into his head each time he saw Leah, or heard her speak, or thought about her. He sang them in his head, over and over. The last words he spoke however, before he closed his eyes forever, 'Leah, you promised.'
