Chapter Four
That night I was
laying on my bed listening to 'Three Car Garage.' I picked up my scrapbook
and flipped to the page that I had told Zac to sign, cause it was my favorite
picture of him. I stared at it. Reading the message over and over.
Does he really mean it? Or does he write that to every girl who doesn't
freak and he thinks is cute? I didn't know. It could be either way, knowing
Zac, you never can tell. Then I noticed something, in the right hand
corner of the picture. It was tiny. So tiny that I squinted to see it.
But I made it out, after 5 minutes. It was number. Under it it said: Call
me.
I couldn't
believe my eyes! My first impulse was to call May or Angela or Krista.
I picked the phone up off the hook . Then set it down again.
I can't call them, any of them, I can't tell them about this. They'd tell
everyone! I thought. Well, my next choice, was to call the number,
and see who answered. That was a scary choice though, and I wasn't
sure I wanted to go through with it. But what if it really was Zac's
number. I wanted to see him again. But I didn't think he'd
write a thing like this, giving out his number. 'Maybe one of the
girls wrote it, as a joke or somethng.' I thought aloud. No, they
wouldn't do that. I've got no other choice, I have to call this number.
-
'YOU WHAT!?'
Isaac spun around to face his 14 year old brother who was lying on his
bed, throwing a ball against the wall.
'I gave her our number.' Zac said plainly.
'Umm...Zac!
What were you thinking!?' Tay asked.
'Well
honestly?' Zac looked at them and stopped bouncing the ball.
'Yea.' Ike
told him.
'Well
I was thinking about how beautiful she was but that's--'
Tay rolled
his eyes. 'I mean, what were you thinking when you wrote our number!?'
'I
JUST TOLD YOU DUMBASS!' He shouted.
'Wooo, mom'll
love to know about that one!' A 12 year old Jessie said as she stepped
through the door.
'Jess, what the hell do you want?' Zac asked angily.
'Some money.'
She smiled at him.
'What about your allowance?!' He demanded.
'I spent it
last week at the mall.' She explained.
'I'm not giving you any then.' Zac resumed throwing the ball at the wall.
'Well I could
just see what mom has to say about your little comment then.' She said.
'That's black
mail!' Zac screamed.
'I know. Now fork it over!' Jessica Demanded.
'Girls.' Zac
mumbled as he rolled off his bed. He got out 20 dollars and handed
it to her. 'Where're you going anyways?' He asked laying back down
on the bed.
'To the movies with Brad.' She told him, counting the money.
'OOOOO
Brad!' Tay teased her. 'Sure, you're gonna watch the movie, i'll bet.'
He grinned.
'Taylor,
shut up!' She demanded.
'You don't
need twenty dollars for the movies! Besides, that little jerk should be
paying!' Zac shouted at her.
'He IS paying!' She replied. Then she turned and ran outta the room.
'YOU BRAT!'
He called after her. He sighed. Ike walked over and shut the door, locking
it this time.
'Now, what
were you thinking? Giving her our number?'
' I just told
you! 3 minutes ago!' Zac screamed. 'And that's what I was thinking!'
Taylor was
going to yell at Zac, but he was interupted by the phone ringing. Zac jumped
off the bed and picked it up. 'Hello?' He said hoping it was Leah.
'Ummm...Zac?' She said nervously.
'Yea this
is Zac!' He was excited now.
'Wow, ummm....' She didnít know what to say.
'Do you wanna
do something tomorrow?' Zac blurted out.
'Yes!' She
replied, a bit shocked.
Taylor was
standing by Ike across the room moving his hand across his throat as if
to say 'No! Cut it! STOP!' But he didn't want Leah to hear him.
Zac
said bye and hung up the phone. He smiled to himself.
'Zac!' Taylor
demanded. No answer. 'ZAC!' He screamed.
'What Tay!?'
'Hey lover
boy, don't get so pissed! So what're you doing tomorrow with her anyway?'
'Going rollerblading.'
He said, still smiling.
