Chapter Eight
Leah was once
again trying to learn something new-going backwards.
'Oh Leah!
Come on! You got the forwards part yesterday and you never thought you
would!'
'Zac, I did
NOT get that, don't you remeber just before May came I....Well umm....backwards
is a lot different from forwards!' She told him.
'Please? Just
try it?' He said pouting.
'Ohhh....okay.'
She gave in.
'Okay this
time I'm gonna push you backwards, just hang on.'
After
a while, she began to get the hang of it, well or so they thought.
'Okay, you've
got it.' He said smiling. 'Want something to drink? There's
a vending machine over there.' He asked.
'Sure.' She
smiled. While Zac went to get something to drink. Leah skated around.
She wasn't really paying attention though. And she failed to notice
the big hill she was about to roll down. All of a sudden Leah felt that
she was going much faster, yet she hadn't changed anything. She looked
back.
'ZAAAAAC!' She screamed as she rolled down the hill. In a flash,
she saw Zac skating down the hill after her. When she got to the bottom,
she tried to steer herself towards the grass. But it wasn't working.
And Zac couldn't catch her in time.
*splash!*
Leah went over a small little grassy hill into a pond.
She sat up,
to see Zac laughing at her.
'It's NOT
funny!' She screeched. 'And it's YOUR fault!'
'My
fault!?' He exclaimed laughing, and rolled a little closer.
'Yea, it's
your fault!' She repeated.
She stood
up and proceeded to get out. Zac wasn't laughing, now he was staring.
'What?' Leah asked. Then it hit her. Why did I wear a white shirt!?
Why this night, of all nights?! She thought. She smacked her
head and fell over in the water. She stayed under the water until
she couldn't hold her breath anymore. She had to come up. Her
cheeks were glowing red. Zac was grinning. 'Now that
was definitly NOT funny!' She shouted.
'Okay whatever.'
He said, still grinning.
'You're a
jerk.'
'I know. I'll
give you my sweatshirt, just come on.' He told her.
'Zac I-'
'I won't look,
I swear to you!' He promised her.
'Oh fine.'
So Zac put his sweatshirt on the ground outside the pond and turned around.
'Okay.' She said. Zac turned around. 'Zac, no more rollerblading.
Not tonight anyway.'
'Ever again?'
he asked.
'I'll think
about it.' She smiled.
'Okay, good
enough for me.' He said walking up beside her.
'So where
are we gonna go?' She asked him.
'Umm....the
beach?'
'Okay, sounds
nice.' She agreed.
Zac and
Leah were sitting on the beach. 'Leah?'
'hmm?'
'What's your
one wish? In the whole world?' He asked her.
'I umm...
to be rich and famous.' She lied.
'Oh....' Was
all Zac said. 'Then tell her you jerk! Kiss her! Let her know
somehow!î Zac thought of what Tay had said the other night.
'Leah?'
'huh?' she
replied. Turning her head to look at him.
Okay Zac,
this is it! Don't screw it up! He thought. He leaned closer
to her.
She grinned
and followed his lead.
Finally!
He's going to kiss me! She giggled.
He pulled
away. Leah was sick of that, and she didn't understand him.
'Zac!' She
shouted.
That scared
him. 'Umm....yea?' Was his faint reply.
'Why don't
you just kiss me!?' She asked, and demanded.
He smiled.
He leaned over again. Closed his eyes. Their lips met. He gave her
a couple of closed-mouth kisses, then they kissed more deeply.
When they
parted, Leah scooted closer to Zac. Until she was in his arms, right beside
him, laying on the beach.
