Here he comes, the beautiful one. But just where does he buy his make-up? suede's Neil Codling in the hype style trial.
When you joined
suede were you measured for your outfit like a new boy joining school?
No. suede
gear consists of about three pairs of trousers and one jacket. I'm
just photographed in what I have on. I think that when you've spent
a lot of time with the same group of people you all turn into an amorphous
blob, style-wise.
Are you ever
seen without make-up?
I borrow blusher
off my flatmate sometimes. I've got my own mascara. Body Shop.
Jet Black. I'm interested in the new ones that lift and separate,
grab your lashes by the roots and thrust them towards the eyebrow.
I'm interested in new mascara technology.
Were you an
ugly baby?
Being in a
playpen at about one-and-a-half years old, I had an out-of body experience.
I remember floating above the playpen, looking down thinking, "What an
ugly sprog." I was kind of squashed with blond hair. Quite
podgy. Of course I dye my hair now.
How did you
arrive at your particular stage-presentation style?
It was a practical
thing. The first gig we did was a fanclub gig and the stage was tiny:
the only room for me was right at the front. And I thought, what
am I going to do? I'll just sit there. It's a natural thing.
I sit like that at home. It's the way my limbs arrange themselves.
Sometimes I want to laugh, but you have to watch that. You've got
to be a bit serious: you can't get up and do a funny dance.
Did you like
modelling for the posh boy fashion piece?
Someone just
stopped me at the end of my road outside the pub and said, "Would you like
to have your photo taken?" It was in Uncle Monty's house from Withnail
And I.
Have you got
a girlfriend?
No.
There's been one on-and-off recently, but not now. My heart isn't
broken, I'm pretty resillient.
So do you ever
want to write bangin' jungle tunes in your spare time?
Yeah, I dibble
and dabble and get it out of my system. When you're fidding around
at home with odd sounds and you don't know what to do with them, you can
just put them over a banging tune and forget them.
You're young-
are you easily led?
Well, yeah.
It depends what's on offer.
Maggie -
people, I'm sorry I can't find any real music relate interview from Neil
