The huge Hi-NRG remake of the classic song done by a Who's Who in Dance Music, all for the Film "54," which epitomized the massive comeback of Disco this year! 09 (CAN YOU) FEEL IT (DROP A HOUSE) - The Tamperer feat. Maya & The Jacksons (#6 6/5/98) Using the lyrics from the underground Dance Hit "Drop A House" was smart. Coupling it with a sample from The Jackson's "Can You Feel It" was GENIOUS! The Tamperer brought them together with vocals by Maya and turned it into one of the biggest Dance Party Trax of the year! Worldwide! 08 HOW DO I LIVE (DANCE MIXES) - LeAnn Rimes / Debra Michaels / Linda Imperial (#1 2/13/98) A hit on the country charts in '97, this track slammed onto the Dance Charts worldwide in '98 thanks largely to Remixes of LeAnn Rimes' original by Mr. Mig and RH Factor. Several other Dance Artists made worthy covers... 07 YOU'RE STILL THE ONE - Shania Twain / Rochelle (#1 6/12/98) Country Music worked overtime crossing over to the Dance Genre this year. Probably the biggest of such hits was Shania Twain's "You're Still The One." Remixed by Soul Solution, this House-flavored version was a sweeping success across the globe, and most particularly in Twain's Home and Native Land of Canada. Rochelle added a magnificent cover for Hi-NRG enthusiasts. 06 TRULY, MADLY DEEPLY - Savage Garden / Vicious Flowerz (#1 1/2/98) The first big hit of 1998 was this smooth love track from Australia's latest SuperGroup, Savage Garden. The Undeniably catchy tune was a Billboard #1 in the US (very rare for a Dance Track these days) and stayed on the Hot 100 for most of the year. Almighty (UK)/Interhit (US) Records covered the song in Stomping Euro fashion for the Clubs and Dance Floors. 05 SUNCHYME (LIFE IN A NORTHERN TOWN) - Dario G. feat. The Dream Academy (#6 6/19/98) Another truly magnificent marriage of a well known song ("Life In A Northern Town" by The Dream Academy) with a wonderful Dance Track. The result was a very Dreamy House track, reminiscent of Robert Miles' gigantic smash "Children" from 1996. "Sunchyme" actually peaked in The UK and parts of Europe in 1997, but it took a bit longer to catch on worldwide. But Thank God it finally did! Probably the most Beautifully crafted song of the year... 04 ONE MORE NIGHT - Amber (#1 3/27/98) Another track that took awhile to take off. This was Amber's third release from her debut album, and almost assuredly her best. This soon-to-be-classic Club smash will be filling Dance Floors for many years to come with it's hauntigly unique sound. 03 MUSIC SOUNDS BETTER WITH YOU - Stardust (#1 10/16/98) One of the biggest selling Dance/House tracks this year exploded from the underground and straight to the top of the charts all over the world. Stardust hit pay dirt with this truly unique sounding song with a classic title. Critics were divided on this one but Dance fans and even pop fans have accepted and loved it almost universally. 02 BELIEVE - Cher (#1 11/6/98) An absolutely stunning comeback by one of the most unique and well-known artists in the world. Dedicated to her ex-husband, The Late Sonny Bono, "Believe" is Cher's biggest hit EVER in the UK! And the song is proving unstopable in country after country. And desevedly so! Critics and Fans alike can agree that this is one of the most unique and thoroughly Brilliant tracks to hit the decks in a LONG time. Love her or hate her, there is no denying the sheer talent behind "Believe." 01 MY HEART WILL GO ON - Celine Dion / Deja Vu / Various Others (#1 1/23/98) Buy It At TITANIC! Colossal! How else could you describe the wave of popularity for anything and everything having to do with the film "Titanic" that swept the Planet earlier this year? Titanic ended up being the highest grossing, most awarded film of all-time; at least to this point. And the theme song from the film, Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" mirrored the success of the motion picture on the music side of the Entertainment World. It's the only song that has sold more copies than "Believe" in the UK this year, and it's ahead by a mile. With a wide release, it probably would be the #1 single of all time. Instead, the soundtrack sold like gangbusters, and the Dance cover by Deja Vu became the big seller on the Singles and Maxi-Singles charts. Deja Vu's cover was more than adequate and is Almighty / Interhit's biggest seller ever! Celine's version was remixed in breath-taking form by the much-lauded Tony Moran. Her label loved his work so much they asked him to cover her follow-up hit, "To Love You More," as well. This will likely end up being Dion's signature hit, head and shoulders above her scores of worldwide #1's.
