Infact, the boys have been around for about five years going from place to place singing and performing where ever possible. The boys started out as "The Hanson Brothers" but soon changed the name because, "It just wasn't cool enough", Taylor (a.k.a. Tay) said during a interview. They sang acapella for three years and it wasn't until about two years ago that they decided to take up instruments. They bought a guitar at a pawn shop and a friend had a set of drums in his attic.
How did they decide who would get to play what instrument? "I had already been playing keyboards- I have taken lessons," Tay said about why he chose the keyboards. Ike took the guitar and well, Zac just got stuck with the drums. Within a week after picking up the instruments, Hanson was on stage performing live. But before they could make it big they were turned down by tons of different record companies. One being Mercury Records.
