Ok, here it goes, one driving around Longview Texas for the first time might notice groups of kids skating around downtown or punk rock coming from garages or storage buildings around the south side. This is where our story takes place. Looking in punk shows around east texas in 97', you would find the future kids of The So-Called. Chase (drums) and Joe (guitar), sharing a childhood, started The Anti-Socials with some other guys. These guys were doomed from the start. shit happened, things were said, blood was shed and then that was the end of The Anti-Socials for Chase and Joe. This is when Mike, coming from past bands with a mutual feeling of dissapointment from a lack of compatability, came into the picture. He had been in such disaster bands in the past as The Suits and The No Goods, and being a guitarist he picked up a bass and the "so-called" pieces started coming together. These kids played together for a while and had a definite chemestry but there was one thing lacking, a singer. Finding one of these that didn't suck was not an easy task. Frustrated from the trial and error process, Mike asked a friend, Roy to come to a practice and give some much needed critisism. After hearing Roy get on the mic. at one of the practices the search was over. Not only did Roys vocals not suck but he happened to be founder of K-os Records, contributing greatly to the booking of shows. These kids just loved playing and in a short time started playing shows together. So, kids heard The So-Called and liked them. It was all good until one day, Chase informed everyone that he was moving. Well, possessing the cat-like reflexes that they do, The So-Called sprung into effect and talked to a mutual friend, Josh Mings. Josh, like many, was looking for a band at the time and was happy to help out. Josh's drumming also effect thier over-all sound, bringing faster and more consistant drumming to the band. That's how it started and that's our so-called story.
