My Unbelievable

Concert Experience

Well well well. If ever there was a day in my life when I was more happy, I cannot remember it after May 18/19. Alanis' concert was May 18th, and I swear I will rememebr it for the rest of my life! I can't believe I did this, but I took time out to write down some thoughts and events and the set list for all you lovely folks, so here it is. If only I could describe the complete and utter joy I've felt...here we go.

The concert was held in the Halifax Metro Centre to a sold out crowd. Before we (me & my boyfriend Brian) walked into the place, we made a donation to Veith House, just cuz it was a cause that Alanis thought worthy, so it had to be good. We went in and I headed straight to the merchandise table. I blew $75 in less than 2 minutes. I bought 2 shirts and a program and was quite the "happy camper". So anyway, we had horrible seats...at the very back of the arena: as far away as you can get. Thank goodness for connections. We talked to one of my uncle's friends, who just happened to be head of security, and he moved us down to 2 rows from the floor on the right side of the stage, 2 sections from the stage! Best thing was that we had no one in front of us. So finally, the lights went off and the first opening act, Joydrop came on. They were pretty, good, but to tell you the truth, I can barely remember. They did rock though. Then after a half-hour set, at 7:30, they left the stage. Then, Brian got up and got something to eat, going with my cousin Andrea. Then at 5 to 8, the Crash Test Dummies came on for their set. They played some old stuff like "Peter Pumpkinhead" and "The Mmmmm song" plus their new hit "Keep a Lid on Things". Their highlight, definately was their closing song. They covered Britney Spears' "Hit Me Baby" they had the audience howling with laughter. It was so funny. They were done at 8:30. I had heard that Alanis was coming on at 9, so Brian left again, but I remained glued to my seat. So at 9, I waited. No Alanis. 10 after, still no Alanis. Finally, at 9:25, the lights went out, and the band graced the stage and started playing. After about 2 whole minutes, I saw Alanis' sillouette coming on the stage. Andrea and Brian were holding me up, and I started bawling my eyes out. It was just...I was so incredibly overwhelmed by the emotional factor. Her opening song was Baba, and I missed half of it, I was crying so hard. So anyway, I won't go into every little detail because it would take too long to read, but the whole concert experience was incredible.

Now for the biggest part. After the show was over, I went around to the back door, just in case anyone walked out. Gary Novak did, and we were talking. He's so sweet, and really cool. So anyway, after talking to him, I talked to this guy who worked at the Metro Center, helping to set up the stage. He kinda knew that I was a huge fan, so he gave me his backstage sticker as a souvenier:) Then, before I knew it, a bus pulled away, and someone announced "She's gone." I was disappointed, but not surprised. Then the mother was like, "Well, we have nothing else to do, so why don't we drive around and see if we wan spot the bus?" So we hopped in the car and, well, we didn't have to drive very far. The bus was stopped outside the Cambridge Suites, the hotel next to mine!!! So I stood there and watched her until she stepped off the bus and walked into the hotel. I as in heaven. ****I get to see you close up!**** And plus the next morning, I walked up to the hotel and talked to some roadies who were checking out, and I said hi to Joel. Then I got a little tired of waiting, plus I had a 5 hour drive ahead of me, so then we left :(, but I had 24 hours of wonderful memories. So to Alanis, I thank u so very much. You have no idea what the whole thing meant to me.
